Mr. Wicket
Another 50 when his team's really needed him. Not pretty, but a fine fighting effort. His batting's improved so much in the last few years and it never ceases to amaze me how he keeps producing knocks like this or some of those gutsy 50s v. Australia and England when everyone else is struggling. :hatsoff: Link to comment
Ram
I dont think there was any pressure as such. Its a good innings, that is all. Nothing outstanding about yet, as yet. Link to comment

graphic23
For a nation with only 4 million people, NZ need more like Vettori, who can bat and bowl well. That said, he's a terrific cricketer. Link to comment

This is brilliant century - outstanding century by a captain. :hatsoff: Century right when NZ needed it! Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
I dont think there was any pressure as such. Coming in at 60/6 in the first session of a series against two of the world's finest quick bowlers isn't batting under pressure? This isn't a crap attack, nor is it an easy situation to bat in. Vettori saw the match slipping away - another wicket after lunch and India would have ROLLED through a light tail with Martin and O'Brien. This hasn't given NZ serious runs yet, but at least there's some more fight and resistance, and the prospect of a half-respectable total around 200 (which was very unlikely at the break). It was a very tough situation, no denying that. But that 60/6 happened because of not only some good bowling, but some bad batting too. Vettori has just come in and played his natural game. A good knock no doubt, not worth a separate praise thread* * - As yet. If he does go on to make a substantial score, he sure will deserve praise. Link to comment

Doesn't matter whether it's bad batting or good bowling, the score is 60/6 on Day 1 of a 3 test series. Even if it's a flat deck, Vettori deserves another thread for yet another class performance under pressure. He's 82 off 120 balls, leaving Ryder, the better batsmen, in the shade. Link to comment
SachDan
:hatsoff: Wonderful century under pressure. How many times he has done it in the past. When the chips are down,NZ under pressure, he'll come an play a gutsy knock. His style of batting is not a pleasant sight for the eyes.Very effective nonetheless. Link to comment
Fontaine
A very lucky innings too I have to say quite a few lucky getaways Exactly. Both Ryder and Vettori fumbled and lucked their way to half centuries. But they did bat well later. Our bowlers were fantastic and it's a very good sign that they are picking up wickets from seam rather than just swing bowling. Link to comment
