it all depends on the economy .. if it turns around then there will be sponsors' date=' spectators , franchise owners otherwise it will fail like Indian Hockey League[/quote'] Primary reason for the success of IPL is the huge arable Indian market and the second to none popularity of Cricket here. If any other PL succeeds at all, it wont ever reach the same level as IPL.

Mallya should not support P20 IMO as IPL will face unnessary competition from it :nervous:

I am at a loss to explain who this APL is targeted at Where is the market ? Where is the interest ? A few old farts entertaining a few expatriate farts ? WTH is P20 ? Didn't the ECB learn their lesson from being badly burnt once ? Inadvertently, this may increase the popularity of the IPL as the IPL shows how its meant to be done

the hockey league failed due to the absence of a delhi team. if PHL had a delhi team' date=' it would have been succesful[/quote'] it is a ridiculous answer. Delhi is not india. does Delhi have a hockey team worth marketing? has the delhi hockey team won any domestic championships? or runner ups in any tournaments in national level competitions?

Phyuck yawl, P(Pak) PL wil be launched shortly and it will kick IPL/Stanford/P20 butt and then some. Excellent location - Dubai with a sprinkling of Abu Dhabi and Sharjah to boot, Pak business streamrolling the effort just adds credence. Man watch this space - PPL is gonna rock your world.

This isn't a copy cat effort. In fact India including ICL borrowed it from UK. The first ever Twenty20 domestic competition was started by England and they had overseas players playing in the league as far as 4 years back. The potential was only realised by India of course and they took it to a different level simply because Indians are very enterprising.

I find it extremely ironic that these countries who have endlessly criticized India for monopolizing the game by introducing cash rich private t20 tournaments - Remember the stories about t20 sealing the fate of test cricket, players giving up tests to play t20 and other doomsday predictions etc - are now feverishly organizing IPL type tournaments of their own. Hypocrisy much ? Forget the IPL is a copy of ICL for a sec - Its all Indian here even though they hate each others guts :D, but whats with the countries that criticized the IPL now copying it ? Same city based auction format ? Same mix of international and domestic players ? Pretty poor guys (copycat countries). The least you could do is come up with something new since you didn't like it so much What I am trying to say is that once India realized the potential and showed how it's done, all these copy cats who spread hysteria with their doomsday predictions are now jumping on the bandwagon with IPL style tournaments of their own. Yes, t20 was popular before the IPL but how many IPL type copy cats have tried to crop up since IPL 2008 ?
