DesiChap
Same pay per match for seniors, juniors: BCCI TIMES NEWS NETWORK / Sumit Mukherjee MUMBAI, April 7: The BCCI sent out a clear and crisp warning to the senior Team India players whose 'couldn't-care-less' attitude in the West Indies led to our World Cup exit after the preliminary stage itself. Ironically, when BCCI was conveying its diktat ? 'Fall in line, or risk falling out of the team' ? to the media on Saturday, an 'ill and exhausted' Greg Chappell was making a quiet exit from the country. Clearly under pressure to act after reports of factionalism in the team filtered in from the Caribbean, the BCCI decided to take the bull by the horns. The opening fire was directed at Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh, who have been asked to explain recent media statements. Breaking convention, the BCCI working committee directed the selectors to pick a young team with Rahul Dravid as captain for the tour of Bangladesh, did away with the gradation system, imposed pay cuts and clamped down on endorsements by the players. Dravid, who many feel has been lucky to keep the captaincy, also had his other wishes granted by the BCCI. As reported by TOI on Saturday, the BCCI named Venkatesh Prasad as the bowling coach and Robin Singh the fielding coach with Ravi Shastri accompanying the team as cricket manager for the tour of Bangladesh with a new full-time media and administrative managers in tow. The players, already under public scrutiny, are cringing under this frontal attack from the BCCI. The Board, which had been toying with the idea of introducing performance-based-pay, has decided to spring it on the players straightway. From now on, players will be entitled to a basic match fee (Rs 1 lakh, likely) and big bonuses if they win matches, tournaments and series. Rohit, Manoj in team for Bangladesh? Mumbai's Rohit Sharma and Bengal's Manoj Tewari, both middle-order batsmen, could be the biggest beneficiaries of the BCCI's new 'youth policy'. Both of them are 'certainties' to make the cut for India's tour of Bangladesh next month. At least seven players, mostly seniors, from the World Cup squad will be 'dropped' as the selectors look to blood juniors. Tamil Nadu batsman S Badrinath and pacers Ranadeb Bose (Bengal) and Ishant Sharma (Delhi) could also find themselves on the plane to Dhaka along with Greg Chappell's favourite Suresh Raina, who is being tipped for a recall along with Punjab's VRV Singh and Mumbai spinner Ramesh Powar. Ram
Re: 7 seniors likely to be dropped for Bangladesh Tour If they drop seven seniors in one go , it will be a disaster. For sure. Harbhajan will be dropped. Kumble isnt goin to play anyway. Agarkar , Dhoni , Sehwag - Will probably be given ultimatums. Ganguly - Put on notice. Sachin , Yuvraj - will be clearly told that performance is the only criterion. Link to comment
gs
Re: 7 seniors likely to be dropped for Bangladesh Tour Maybe even Pathan and that geriatric Munaf :chin: Link to comment
cricajar
Re: 7 seniors likely to be dropped for Bangladesh Tour Why hating on munaf? or Zak...both have been playing very, very well...the bowlers did tremendously well for india. Against bangladesh tehy almost defended 191, and they held sri lanka to a mediocre 250 score. So i'm not quite sure why they should recieve any rebuke. Def Bhajji who apparently can't take a wicket should be passed over for Pawar who really plays the game with guts. Ganguly, Tendulkar both need to retire it would be terrilbe to "drop" them Dhoni needs to be given an ultimatum or dropped b/c he can only play in india and thats just not right. yuvi's good man, i'm sorry but that kid's got oodles of talent...uthappa maybe deserves and extended run... yoda
Re: 7 seniors likely to be dropped for Bangladesh Tour this is sounding a bit extreme, but if that is the only way to get these "seniors" to "retire", i am not opposed to it. Link to comment
DesiChap
Re: 7 seniors likely to be dropped for Bangladesh Tour Maybe they are thinking for blooding the youngsets for the 3 ODI's in Bangladesh. That might be OK, but looking at todays resulst against SA they may just drop a few non-performers. Link to comment

On the other hand I feel they might be doing all this public tamasha just for the BD tour and then all these old timers would be drafted back in. Link to comment
