Shewag put on notice

NEW DELHI, Nov 30: Out-of-form Virender Sehwag was put on notice on Thursday by the national selectors who stripped him of vice-captaincy for the upcoming three-Test series against South Africa. "Absolutely. Nobody can take his place in the team for granted," shot back chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar when asked whether removing Sehwag from vice-captaincy was a message to him. Sehwag, who has been struggling for runs in recent times, was replaced as vice-captain by Hyderabad batsman VVS Laxman in the Test squad for the South Africa tour. The Delhi opener has averaged just 27.25 in his last 25 One-dayers while in Tests in the 2005-06 season, he has averaged 39.37, a sharp decline from a fine 52. Vengsarkar was plied with questions on the inclusion of Laxman for the last One-dayer after having been dubbed as not fit for the shorter version of the game and his sudden elevation as vice-captain for the Test series. "Laxman is going to be the vice-captain only for the Tests. There can be no question about his ability. And he can always improve his fitness," the former India captain said.

Re: Shewag put on notice Geez, why am i not surprised ? This coming from a guy who just recently served us a boatload of gibberish: - No quota for selections - No talent in the country - Laxman is not cut out for ODIs - Ganguly can only comeback by performing After this test series, expect to hear: "Sehwag has always been a fighter & a match winner & is rightly the Vice captain" "Laxman seems to be on the decline and cannot rely on past performances alone"

Re: Shewag put on notice Board 'forced' Sehwag demotion MUMBAI, Nov 30: The decision to strip Virender Sehwag from the vice-captain's post may be seen as a tough selectorial message. But the truth is the selection panel led by Dilip Vengsarkar was 'forced' to take a call and appoint VVS Laxman in Sehwag's place after a directive from the BCCI. It is learnt that the selectors had been told that a clear message had to be sent out to Sehwag owing to 'problems with his attitude'. The other player against whom the Board wanted a stern action was off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, again because of his attitude. Sehwag put on notice India need experienced players: Sehwag If the selectors had decided to take that extreme step, Delhi opener Aakash Chopra and Mumbai offie Ramesh Powar would have been the beneficiaries. Action against Sehwag and Harbhajan had been 'pending' since the Champions Trophy. Senior board officials had been keeping a close watch on the duo, but delayed taking any action. Sehwag's bright 65 against Australia in the Champions Trophy and Harbhajan's consistent One-day bowling during 2006 had saved them the axe. The team think-tank had been wanting a pro-active vice-captain who was more involved. So far, Sehwag had been giving a 'satisfied look' and his general demeanour on the field had left several decision-makers dissatisfied. No complaints were made but senior officials had noted that Sehwag needed to be reprimanded. Hence, Hyderabad touch artiste Laxman emerged as a compromise candidate for the vice-captaincy because of his seniority. The other major reason is that Sehwag losing the role is because he is 'not guaranteed' to play all three Tests. If he fails in the first, Gautam Gambhir can well replace him. However, stand-in skipper Sehwag was as nonchalant as ever about his batting form after another failure on Wednesday: "I don't think anything is going wrong with my batting. I have to spend some time at the crease. When you are chasing, you are always looking at the scoreboard and you try and play shots. "Sometimes you get out and at times you get runs."

>If he fails in the first, Gautam Gambhir can well replace him. what a bull$hit..he hasnt failed in a single series...he is our consistent scorer in Tests.. drop him from ODis...
Sehwag in his last 4 series: [code:1:eed30a2d9b] Sri Lanka in India, 2005/06 [Series] Ind 2 3 0 56 36 20 0 18.66 0 0 1 India in Pakistan, 2005/06 [Series] Pak 3 4 0 294 254 31 5 73.50 1 0 0 England in India, 2005/06 [Series] - 3 6 1 95 76* 11 6 19.00 0 1 2 India in West Indies, 2006 [Series] Ind 4 7 0 357 180 65 41 51.00 1 1 1 [/code:1:eed30a2d9b] But it is kinda dumb to put him on "notice" for tests.

Re: Shewag put on notice

Unnecessary to put pressure on Sehwag publically. He is practially half of our test batting line-up.
I think you are confusing Sehwag with Dravid.
Both of u are right, Sehwag is one half, Dravid is the other half, and also the better half :hic:
