Show some respect to Tendulkar: Wadekar

Show some respect to Tendulkar: Wadekar Ehtesham Hasan MUMBAI, April 10: The show cause notices issued by the Board to Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh for airing their views in the media have been dispatched, but according to BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah, no time frame has been set for them to answer. Earlier in the day, a report, quoting unnamed sources, said that the duo had been asked to reply within seven days. Anyway, the BCCI turning up the heat on Tendulkar has recieved mixed reactions. A few experts reckon that Tendulkar had no business to speak as the gag orders were in place and he should have aired his grievances directly to those who mattered, while the same logic is being used as far as Yuvraj backing his senior pro goes. A few pundits reckon that the premier batsman failed to read the wrong one coming out off Greg Chappell's hand, and dragged himself out of the crease too early, thus getting stumped. How we wish Chappell had shown the same shrewdness while devising the opposition's downfall rather than to throw out the toys from the pram for not getting what he wanted. Former India captain Ajit Wadekar says that the game's governing body should have shown a little more respect to the great batsman. "If there was a clause in the players' contract that prevented them from talking to the media, then Tendulkar should have avoided it. But having said that, he is a living legend who has given half his life to the country and has been the pride of the nation for so long. They should've called Sachin and spoken with him instead of sending him a notice," said Wadekar. Wadekar, who has served Indian cricket in every possible way - and yet finds himself on the sidelines in these troubled times for Indian cricket - said that the BCCI should have spoken to the players to get their side of the story as Chappell was an outsider who probably did not understand the Indian psyche. Under scrutiny There are many in city cricket who are seething in anger over the BCCI's decision but for obvious reasons can't come out in the open. "We have a vice-president of the Board who is under scrutiny (the Margao court has asked for charges to be filed under sections 461, 465, 468, 471, 420, 201 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code) for printing fake tickets and the same person has the audacity to come out and question the integrity of players," said an official. He was referring to Dayanand Narvekar, Goa's health minister and the current BCCI vice-president from the South Zone. The anger and accusations don't stop here. "Before the meeting, Chappell and some officials kept feeding the media. They accused the seniors of operating like a mafia and mistreating the juniors... no one even bothered to check with Chappell. Instead, we read stories in the media how spellbound they were with his presentation to save Indian cricket and a couple of show cause notices were slapped on a player who has served Indian cricket unflinchingly... it's a shame," he said. This is not for the first time that Chappell has sold India a dummy. In fact, some of the former India players have been crying hoarse, for more than a decade now, with suggestions from time to time to strengthen Indian cricket. And yes, there was nothing new in Chappell's suggestions. Manohar who? The Chappell fan club in the BCCI is headed by Shashank Manohar, BCCI's vice-president from the Central Zone. It was he who reportedly urged the Australian to stay on even after the colossal damage caused by the coach which saw Indian cricket plummeting to its lowest ebb. Incidentally, Manohar who comes across as a no-nonsense administrator is one of the key players to introduce the cap on players' endorsements. He's also one of those responsible in slapping notices on Tendulkar and Yuvraj. This, incidentally, is the same man who produced a greentop in Nagpur (against Australia) to teach his political opposition a lesson. He didn't care if India lost a test match. So much for caring about Indian cricket. A lawyer by profession, he has made it clear that the BCCI will not budge even though some of his colleagues have toned down their pitch after the two-day summit where they all wanted tough action against top cricketers. Manohar has been ruling the roost at the Vidarbha Cricket Association, and had his policies been effective, his association would have only enriched Indian cricket with some precious talent. Unfortunately, Vidarbha has not even made it to the Ranji Trophy Elite division despite repeated attempts by the visionary at the helm.

Re: Show some respect to Tendulkar: Wadekar more dirt on manohar http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070408210151AAXjGym To know Shashank Manohar better, one has to go back to 26th November 1995. It was an ODI played between India and New Zealand when the VCA stadium wall collapsed, killing 13 people and injuring over 70. And who were responsible? Shashank Manohar himself, along with his father V.R. Manohar, the bosses of the VCA stadium - allegely these guys had contracted a close relative of theirs for the construction of the wall. It isn't a surprise that a man responsible for cricket's biggest onfield tragedy is the vice-president of the board. Is he an honest man? Shashank Manohar claims to be one. His sycophant journalists include a certain Ajay Nayudu and Vinay Nayudu who claim that Shashank Manohar does not take a penny from the BCCI, even pays for his travel expenses. Facts state otherwise. Shashank Manohar took money from the VCA coffers to sponsor a school-boy team's 3 month tour to England. Why? Just because his son was playing in the team. For the record, his son Adwait Manohar is a pathetic cricketer, with a first class average of 15. So, he spent millions from the BCCI earnings to give his own good-for-nothing son. An honest douchebag indeed.

Re: Show some respect to Tendulkar: Wadekar I can understand where Wadekar is coming from but I can't quite agree with him on this :

"If there was a clause in the players' contract that prevented them from talking to the media, then Tendulkar should have avoided it. But having said that, he is a living legend who has given half his life to the country and has been the pride of the nation for so long. I don't quite understand that part, given half his life to the country??? Now then just because he has played more cricket than the rest can he go around saying anything (he normally doesn't do that ). I'm just questioning Wadekar's logic here. The contract is supposed to be the same for all the players like otherwise I would be miffed. Why special treatment for one and not for the rest? As for Manohar, how come the wall collapse incident not taken up in the court? How is that he is eligible to sub head a board?

Re: Show some respect to Tendulkar: Wadekar BTW I remember his name Manohar, he was related or friend to one of the posters here. He was supposed to catch up with Manohar during one of the ICC trophy games but we didn't quite hear from him since. The poster absolutely hated Tendulkar, I hope he wasn't Manohar himself :chin:

Re: Show some respect to Tendulkar: Wadekar Tendulakar doesn't deserve any respect after the poor attitude he has shown. 1) Swetabh posted that Tendulkar lied about his injury in the third test match. 2) The way he and other batsmen told Dravid, that if he wins the toss against Bangladesh they should bat for batting practice.

Re: Show some respect to Tendulkar: Wadekar Wadekar is a fool and represents everything that is wrong with the mentality of the Indian hero-worshipping public. Respect is earned, not given. Tendulkar earned the respect of the cricketing world by scoring runs in dazzling fashion, but now that he is batting like sh*t that respect is no longer warranted.

That's the problem with our country. Give him special tax breaks, don't hold him to the same rules as others, keep in the team till he himself decides to retire. History will decide who is a legend and who is not and tendulkar will rightfully be judged as a legend and respected for what he did. Currently, he is a player and should be treated the same as everyone else.

Re: Show some respect to Tendulkar: Wadekar That's right, show some respek to Tendulkar by -buying the products he endorses -suffering his failures against good opposition -chanting like a mantra all the records he's set when someone points out the above -letting him choose the date of retirement Don't you know, he's given his life for the country! He's got all those 100s for you and me!
