And there are chances he may not be part of the team that will tour England this summer. The Sunday Telegraph said on Sunday that the selectors did not want to pick Lara as captain for the World Cup. They chose Ramnaresh Sarwan, the Guyanese former prodigy. But Sarwan was abandoned after West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) president Ken Gordon stepped in and Lara was appointed. According to the newspaper, when Lara was supposed to be selecting the West Indies World Cup team in Antigua, he was in Barbados where he has a growing portfolio of property and interests. If the West Indies selectors are allowed to pick their own team, Lara may not be included in the touring party for England at all, the daily said. Lara dropped Sarwan for the first Test in Pakistan last autumn after Sarwan had made a century and four 50s in his six previous Tests. Lara once identified Sarwan as his vice-captain and successor.
