According to BCCI...shastri has declined to takethe coach's job after BD tour and would like to continue with commentary. BCCI is looking for a foreign coach as the captain, sachin and most of the team wants a foreign coach. Moody and whatmore are in the running and have been approached by BCCI. Some people not happy with whatmores willingness to dump BD for India as he may do it to us if given a better offer. That leaves Moody .....i.e if he leaves SL. source...Timesnow exclusive. :hic:

Re: Shastri not available post BD tour... Kind of knew Shastri will not want to continue. Why would he want to give up sitting in a lazy boy and getting paid for commenting on what's happening in the middle for less pay but more demanding job? It's a shame guys like Gavaskar, Shastri and the rest like to comment on anything and everything but not offer their services when there is a need.

Re: Shastri not available post BD tour... Would not want someone like Shastri anyway. He is just a name like Dev was, does not mean he would be a good coach as has no experience or proven track record in coaching! We need someone who has a proven track record in coaching not a proven track record in being a good player or commentator!

Re: Shastri not available post BD tour... completely agree with dsr. Looking at the Simpson article on Sachin's batting - my main take away was that Shastri's philosophy of "only player management is required at this level as you cant coach batting at this level" is way off. We need a coach who has an eye for details and who can detect the technical flaws or help people develop new skills (eg., slower ball for Srinath etc. not a player manager.

However, again Shastri has no proven track record in man managemnet etc He may rub the players up the wrong way and have them demotivated. We have no idea as he has no track record in being a coach at all.

Re: Shastri not available post BD tour... Wonder why this is surprising? This was known all along He got permission from his employer ESPN-STAR to manage the Indian team in Liliputland as ESPN-STAR did not have a bradcasting conflict of interest. He was always going to be only for the Liliput tour. Get ready to welcome Dav Whatmore.

Re: Shastri not available post BD tour... I never quite grasped the logic behind Shastri being a manager/coach for BD series.....there was enough time since the wcup to hire a coach...the BCCI just played the Shastri card to fool us into believing that they were doing something....
