Moody tells Australia to mind their own business Cricinfo staff April 27, 2007 Lasith Malinga is back after missing part of the Super Eights with an ankle problem ? Getty Images Tom Moody, the Sri Lanka coach, says Australia should keep out of the debate over Sri Lanka resting three bowlers during the Super Eights to keep them fresh for the finals. Ricky Ponting said Sri Lanka, who face Australia in the decider on Saturday, missed a chance to maintain their momentum when they left out Muttiah Muralitharan, Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga for the match on April 16, but Moody said the issue had nothing to do with Australia. "The return shot is why does Sri Lanka have to be told who to play against Australia?" Moody, who won two World Cups with Australia, said in the Courier-Mail. "What is it to do with Australia who we play in a game which is essentially a dead rubber? "The cricket world did not stick their nose into the fact that half the Australian team didn't tour New Zealand for the Chappell-Hadlee Series. That was Australia's choice. It is the way you prepare your players for a long World Cup." Glenn McGrath and Ricky Ponting had games off during the CB Series while Ponting and Adam Gilchrist did not tour New Zealand for the Chappell-Hadlee Series. Moody was confident Sri Lanka could spring an upset in the final, despite predictions the pacy and bouncy pitch would suit the Australians. "I think we can win," he said. "What Australia has done has no relevance to Saturday. If Sri Lanka bring their A game it is good enough to beat Australia. "The Sri Lankans have a huge amount of respect for Australia but are not in awe of the contest. They actually welcome that. During my time with the team it has never seemed they were in fear or starstruck about Australia." ? Cricinfo

Re: Moody tells aussies to lay off Good retort by Moody. On a different note, apparently he is not interested in Indian coaching job. Like they say , once bitten twice shy. http://www.cricketworldcuplatest.com/news/sri-lanka-coach-tom-moody-not-interested-in-india--111849.html Australian Tom Moody presently coaching Sri Lanka is reportedly known to have shown no interest in taking up India job even if the offer was to come his way. The BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah, who has come to the Caribbean to witness the World Cup semi-finals and final, had also planned to hold informal discussions with Moody but apparently nothing of that sort has happened. Shah after watching the first semi-final in Jamaica, left for St Lucia on Tuesday night to watch the second semi-final on Wednesday. Shah confirmed as much that the new coach would have tenure of two years. Interestingly, Shah said, "the board would appoint a permanent manager for the Indian team." It's a new development and seems to go with captain Rahul Dravid's opinion, who apparently suggested to the board that they should have a permanent manager with the team. Shah was reported in the PTI as saying, that the actual discussions for the Indian coaching job would take place after the World Cup was over and when some clarity emerged on who was available. As of now, only Moody and Dav Whatmore of Bangladesh among international coaches were in contention. Moody had applied for Indian coach's role two years ago but the Indian board had then given Greg Chappell preference over him. Moody apparently doesn't want to take up a job which involves lot of international travelling as well as the accompanying pressure of media and fans. Besides, there were indications that Moody could become the coach of Western Australia.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: , love these gems. These guys lineup the contenders without even having any confirmation from the contenders that they are interested. I still remember how Desmond Haynes was "surprised" to learn that BCCI panel was planning on interviewing him for the coaching job last time, without Haynes ever expressing any interest nor dropping general hints in the media on a coaching career. Poor guy flew all the way from WI, gave a presentation & flew back, without knowing that he was merely making up the numbers to uphold of the "Equal opportunity employment" criteria of the BCCI. :hic:
