Ram
Not sure on what basis Srinath made that assessment, think he’s better off comparing Sachin to other cricketers only. Link to comment
vvvslaxman
If you ask Japanese they will say Rajinikanth is the greatest sports person :cantstop: Link to comment

That guy too has been competing for the last 20 years with as much motivation and passion (if not more), albeit with much less fanfare. Link to comment

bunny
Just off the top of my head Manny Pacquiao - Boxing Ae Yang - Golf Lin Dan - Badminton Jahangir Khan - Squash Jahangir Khan's record in squash is unparalleled across any other sport I think. That guy deserves to be mentioned alongside Jordan, Bradman, Federer, Spitz, and a handful of others. Link to comment
triam
^^^ Yes, Jahangir is in a league of his own, in the list I provided other than Ae Yang(Golf, which I dnt really consider to be a sport) everyone else competes in a sport where physical fitness is an absolute killer. Link to comment

urbestfriend
Srinath said " It is great to see him complete 20 years in international cricket. I don't think any other sportsperson in Asia has ever achieved such a feat," and rediff gave a title " sachin the greatest ever in Asia: srinath".... What a sh!tty journalism! Link to comment

Zap_Brannigan
Can someone name someone else from Asia in the same stature as say Pele or Schumacher? These are my opinions - Chess is not a sport. So vishy and the Russians cannot be counted. Squash is an underdeveloped non-popular sport. Hence someone who dominates that sport maynot be the best that could have been. Would you call the tamil carrom guy the greatest "sportsperson" since he has won pretty much everything ? Olympics is for amateurs and its extremely skewed against the short events. Some sports has the equivalent of 1 ball game, 6 over game,T20, ODI and tests. 100m, 200m, 400 m, Front stroke, backstroke !! Really ? All that for just running and swimming from A to B? Maybe these is someone from Russia or China in some not so popular sport but i dont think that there is anyone better than Sachin in Football, Tennis or Cricket.Infact only football and Tennis are truly global sports and its sad that none from India or Asia has excelled in them. vvvslaxman
I think i was being harsh on Srinath. It is clear case of Rediff twisting the words. I have abused them several times in the worst possible language for their "Titling". Well they don't seem to stop. Link to comment
punjabi_khota
Agreed with Zap. You can't compare cricket with chess or squash or some lame **** like that. Link to comment
