Sehwag to lead India if Dravid misses first ODI PTI PrintCommentMail MUMBAI, May 6: Virender Sehwag is likely to lead Team India in the first ODI against Bangladesh on May 10 in case regular captain Rahul Dravid sits out of the match with a nose injury. Dravid was hit by an RP Singh bouncer on the penultimate day of the conditioning camp in Kolkata and though he is stated to be improving fast, he did not take part in Sunday's practice sessions. "In case Rahul misses the match, seniority-wise, Sehwag should lead the side," Venkatapathy Raju, one of the selectors, said. "However, the decision is to be taken by the team management (comprising cricket manager Ravi Shastri and administrative manager Surendra Bhave). They would surely consult Rahul on this before leaving for Dhaka," he said. Sehwag, who had a prolonged slump in form, has been named only in the ODI squad against Bangladesh and India did not name any vice captain for the tour for either the ODI or Test team. Earlier in the day, Shastri, however, exuded confidence that Dravid would be fine for the tour. "Rahul is fine. He will brush off that injury. He is a tough cookie. His improvement is being monitored," Shastri said. Team's Administrative Manager Surendra Bhave also informed that Dravid's injury was not serious and he was expected to start playing within 48 hours of the injury. http://cricket.indiatimes.com/News/News/Sehwag_to_lead_India_if_Dravid_misses_first_ODI/articleshow/2008816.cms ------------- wonder how shewag keep charming the selectors....

Re: Sehwag to lead India if Dravid misses first ODI :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Silence is golden from the BCCI comedy club All quiet on Raju claim A STAFF REPORTER Virender Sehwag Calcutta: The BCCI doesn?t wish to comment on Venkatapathi Raju?s observation that Virender Sehwag should be the vice-captain. Dilip Vengsarkar is also keeping mum. ?I don?t wish to make a comment,? the chief selector said on Sunday. A PTI report from Mumbai had quoted Vengsarkar?s colleague on the selection panel Raju as saying: ?In case Rahul misses a match, seniority-wise, Sehwag should lead. However, the decision will be taken by the team management.? Ratnakar Shetty, BCCI?s chief administrative officer, said he would not comment on speculative stories. ?Whether Raju has said it or not is also a matter of conjecture. We will stick to what was decided after the selection meeting and that the team management will have a final say on the issue.? Earlier in the day, cricket manager Ravi Shastri said: ?We will relate to the ifs when the ifs arrive. Don?t worry, there will be no problems. We know who should do the job and who should not do the job.? If Sehwag?s elevation turns out to be true, it will be surprising as the Delhi opener had been removed from that position some months back and has not performed since to get back that position. Moreover, unlike Yuvraj Singh, who has been picked for both Tests and ODIs, Sehwag has been picked only for the shorter version of the game. It is expected that Dravid will avert such a crisis by playing the opening match in Mirpur on Thursday.
