'Mushtaq Ahmed passed champagne bottles to Woolmer' May 10, 2007 19:10 IST Last Updated: May 10, 2007 19:17 IST In a new twist to the Bob Woolmer murder case, a Pakistan television channel claimed on Thursday that two champagne bottles that were reportedly mixed with a poisonous substance were passed on to deceased coach by Pakistan's bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed. Ahmed, who received the bottles from some other person, passed them to Woolmer, ARY TV quoted Pakistan's media manager for the World Cup, Pervez Mir, as saying. Mir said team manager Talat Ali was witness to it. According to reports in British media, some weed killer was mixed with the champagne bottles. ARY TV reported that Ali and the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf declined to comment on it According to the channel, Mir stated that Ahmed passed on the two bottles to Woolmer and only Ali and Ahmed knew the identity of the person who handed over the bottles. The bottles were recovered from the Pegasus hotel room of Woolmer, who died under mysterious circumstances a day after Pakistan's shocking World Cup defeat at the hands of Ireland. The television channel report also said that one bottle was empty and the other was not used. Mir said Woolmer used to drink beer and he rarely consumed champagne.

Police already know the person who gave the bottles to Mushy so then why is PJ coming out and trying to seek more media attention? :chin:
What do you reckon is going since about couple of months? BTW now whatever happened to the strangulation angle? :chin: From natural death to poisoning to strangulation to snake venom to now champagne  Why would anyone gift a champagne, not that Pakistan won anything in the WC prior Woolmer's death?

Maybe the poison was meant for Mushtaq' date=' eh? In a good whodunnit the victim is frequently the fall guy, and the culprit is never the one you think.[/quote'] Good twist to the tale.

Like anyone would be interested in eating achar from a stranger! Plus, you have to know what variety the dude likes. How was the culprit to know that Mushtaq is a closet teetotaller? The wiered thing is, why is MA hiding the identity of the gifter- saying he doesn't want to get an innocent man in trouble. In that case it was MA himself who must have got the bright idea of doping the champagne. At this rate there will soon be no one who is not a suspect. It's turning out to be Murder on the Orient Express.

My point was that the muslims aren't even allowed to buy or sell champagne then why would any one try to poison Mushy by giving him a bottle of champagne!

They sure can buy or sell in WI. Not every country has that kind of regulations.
speaking from an Islamic stand point, if you are going to poison a Muslim it doesn't make sense to try and kill him via champange because he won't drink it!

MP.... wat is ur take on tableeghi jamat' date=' from a moderate muslim's perspective....[/quote'] Just like the madrasas the TJ has been portrayed as something totally negative by the media, some TJ and the Madrasas have their own agendas and then media has it's own agenda so the overall picture is always negative. The bottom line is that there are good and bad people and it's our responsibilty to educate ourselves so we can tell the difference between the good and the evil.

I know quite a few muslims who drink. In any case, this case won't make any sense at all unless someone stops hiding a few facts. What do you think, is that 'someone' part of the team or management?
