India will be hard to stop now: Shastri

Recommended Posts

The title is hilarious.. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: .. seems like shastri has been smoking too much of grass these days.... ------------------- Dhaka, May 10 (PTI): Victory in the series-opening cricket one-dayer over Bangladesh has given a much needed boost of morale to the Indian team and manager Ravi Shastri predicted today that they would be hard to beat in the series hereafter. "At one point I was also nervous about the outcome, but the boys showed tremendous character and fighting spirit. It will be difficult to defeat us now. Bangladesh better beware," Shastri said after the five wicket win at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium. The former all-rounder conceding that he too had become a bundle of nerves when things were not going India's way, but said the team only needed a couple of wins to get on track. "They are a great bunch. Their camaraderie is excellent. The need is for one or two wins like this to get the guys back on track and play the cricket they should," Shastri said. He was full of praise for the match-winning efforts by M S Dhoni and Dinesh Kaarthick. "They are young players and to show that kind of maturity augurs well. The way they played you have got to give them credit. I thought they were outstanding in trying circumstances. "Dhoni had kept for 47 overs and then had to come out and bat and had cramps. But the good thing was he didn't give it away," Shastri said. "They played hard cricket today and they really had to dig into their reserves to win and that will stand them in good stead. I think Bangladesh will have to play better cricket now if they want to beat India," he added. Shastri said he was quite satsified with the showing of his team. "I was very satisfied. It was a fighting performance. When you are watching a cricket match, and a side is 140 for 5 and another 100 plus to get in trying conditions and when you get that without losing a wicket, not only is that entertainment, it shows all the qualities a sportsperson should have to reach the top level. "There was concentration, there was discipline, there was fighting spirit and above all there was tremendous self-belief," Shastri said. The former India captain said "Dhoni is a specialist and he can bat at any number. If the conditions are like that and if he (Dhoni) is feeling the heat then it's a great bonus to have two wicketkeepers. One can keep for 40 overs and the one for the next overs or someone for 30 overs, it is allowed." He, however, admitted that there were grey areas, "There is work to be done in a couple of areas, but I would rather take a win in this fashion. It was a tough game and I am really proud of the way the guys responded." "To win in that fashion, an emphatic fashion in the end, 100-run partnership at run a ball under pressure, I would rather look at the positives than dwell on the negatives," he added. Shastri said the team management would not seek a replacement for Manoj Tewari, who was ruled out of the tour following a shoulder injury. "We would have the Test team coming over a day before the last ODI. If necessary we will use any one of them." http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/007200705102222.htm

Re: India will be hard to stop now: Shastri The way shastri and vengy shook hands nodding to each other one might get impression they had planned for collapse and then winning from the hopeless situation.. For bangis target is play reckless natural game and in case there is collapse and 4-5 wicket falls someone still should be able to anchor and take them through.. PS: Mujhmein shastri ki aatma ghus aai hai main sathiya gaya hun.

Re: India will be hard to stop now: Shastri Much ado about nothing. Shastri doesn't know this team very well I reckon. Guys like Tendulkar had promised results in every series but all they came back with was a drubbing. I hope they don't put Shastri down by playing terrible cricket in the rest of the series. For a change I don't mind someone like Shastri. Lest he is not trashing his own players unlike Greg. I have to agree Dhoni fought it out there. He was completely wet with sweat. . It must have been pretty humid and hot. Sitting here it is easy to underestimate the effort but Dhoni and Karthik did fight well and showed enough character. Dhoni in sub continent conditions is a star, no second thoughts about it. As for Dhoni, it was not just carrying on but he ensured he was there till the end after going at no.3. That was some good batting not with standing the quality of bowling.

Re: India will be hard to stop now: Shastri i actually would have to agree with Shastri. he is not a man who is verbose or lose with metaphors and when he says that the win has instilled much needed confidence, i have to agree. I think with our team, temperament and morale are just as important as skill and when we have confidence, even if the victory is not very convincing and especially if it is hard fought, we become a different team all together. i must say we have the ideal schedule this year. first bangladesh to build confidence, england to hone our skills and finally the ultimate test: the new australia (new coz there will not be any mcgrath or warne, and we all know how ineffective gilly is in india).

Re: India will be hard to stop now: Shastri i dont understand how we are begrudging this win because of the lbw decision. for perspective, let's have a look at the B'desh gameplan. they have no plan B basically, whenever their opening partnership fails they are done for. i dont want to go into statistics or anything, but this is my observation of how they play - they know they have huge deficiencies so they follow a simple plan which gets them decent totals once in a while. Tamim goes after the bowling, while Omar block block blocks. you take away this opening partnership and they have shown how they get blown away time and time again. So its the 2nd over I think, and Sreesanth bowls a swinging delivery down the legside and Tamim gets a nice nick. who else but Dhoni takes a leaping catch, but the umpire doesnt give it out. If ifs and ands were pots and pans, they say. It is fair to say Dhoni was lucky to get away with the lbw (by extension we decide that we should have lost the game!). But i think it is equally fair to say that had Tamim been given out, there is no chance in hell Bangla would have gotten anywhere near the 250. i am willing to wager on it during the remainder of this series - take away their early top order and see what happens when the rest try to make up for it. It's as logical an extension as the one that says we won because Dhoni wasnt given out early in his inning. Ridiculous to say the least. the solution is not in blasting the players and our team, but rather the poor standard of umpiring that has pervaded the game in recent times, and lack of action by the ICC in reinforcing this crucial aspect of the game with some sort of referral system, or at least better umpires. I am not saying that we would have won without Dhoni. most likely not. But the umpires had messed up the game earlier anyway and pretty much changed the route it would take - that is the issue for me.

we are talking about whether this team has put the world cup debacle behind and is back on track' date=' that doesn't seem to be the case.[/quote'] Without blaming an individual, its taken a year of ODI beating to put us in the state we are today. More than the ability its the self belief that is missing. An easy win wouldnt have done any good, its a hard earned win that will lift this team.
