http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/6140346.stm From BBC News India bullish on disputed glacier India maintains Siachen is of strategic value India's army has ruled out a compromise with Pakistan over the disputed Siachen glacier, days before a new round of talks between the two countries. A spokesman said India was in a position of strength in the glacier. Indian and Pakistani officials are to discuss Siachen, among other issues, at talks in Delhi next week. The two countries agreed a ceasefire deal over the Siachen glacier in 2003 but have yet to agree on how to withdraw troops. Siachen borders Pakistani and Indian-administered portions of Kashmir and is regarded as the world's highest battlefield. Many casualties at the glacier are the result of the extreme cold. The Indian army's top officer at the glacier said Siachen is of vital, strategic and diplomatic value. He said India holds a military advantage over Pakistan and will not back down. "Pakistan is talking of demilitarising Siachen, while it is so far away from here that it can't even see it," the officer said. India holds a substantial portion of the glacier and wants both sides to formally mark their current troop positions before any withdrawal. Pakistan rejects the idea as it believes that would be tantamount to accepting India's control over the glacier.

Siachen is strategically the most important position and Mushy mus be naive as a nun to think tht we would withdraw cos of a round of talks....

Re: India control the Siachen sorry to be blunt..quasi..but Pakistani army and ISI can not be trusted.... they are a state within a state..so any pact with GoP may oy may not apply on these two states within the state... and they can do any adventure to internationalise the Kashmir issue.. hopefully GoI have learnt a lesson from kargil and they will safeguard their interests.

Re: India control the Siachen

Waisay - India ko Siachin Mubarak Ho - they can sit there all year and suffer frost bite in the name of Glory... Sometimes I wonder if Pak and India have ONE brain cell between themselves !
Well stop tring to encroach on indian land and we can stop this. We never try to take bits of your land. Yet you guys always try to start some border dispute and take/encroach land. Kargil being a classic case. O sorry that was a local uprising nothing to do with pak govt  Do you guys understand the word peace?

Re: India control the Siachen Hold over Siachen is important for India for all strategic & military reasons.....We can't trust the words of Mushy especially after Kargil adventure. Having said that, both India and Pakistan waste vast amount of time and energy when there is so much poverty all over. Imagine soldiers from both sides die for some barren land that is in high altitude, freezing cold, limited food supply, far away from family, gun-fires all around etc. I had interacted with few jawans who served in that part. Heard that it is such unbearable cold where people lose their limbs bcos they dont even feel even when their own body parts are eaten by the snow and cold. They are very poorly equipped. But WTF..who cares...We have our own rivalry and fuckin happy fighting each other when people don't have food to eat...My peanut brain cant understand the fuckin reason behind this
