Why Mumbai players failed miserably in Test Cricket for a last decade or so?

In the last 15 years or so, no cricketer from Mumbai has been successful at the Test Level except of course the great Sachin Tendulkar. Kambli could have been a success but for his antics. Any reasons for this? They win the Ranji Tropy regularly but surprisingly they do not find spots in the Indian team so often. Paras Mambrey, Ramesh Powar, Sairaj Bahutule, Manjrekar, Nilesh Kulkarni,Kambli, Jaffer- all did not perform to their potential at all.

I disagree. Selectors have been very prejudiced against Mumbai cricketers in the last decade. How many have got decent opportunities at the international level? Look at the following: Mhambrey - Played for only one test and dropped unceremoniously Powar - Has a bowling average of less than 20 in tests and yet not persisted with Kambli - Batting average of 54 and just failure in one series ended up as his last series Agarkar - when Nehra, Munaf, Sreesanth, Ishant, Praveen get hammered in ODIs, it is fine and they retain their place, but when Agarkar gets, he should be dropped. What justice is this? He still has a better ODI bowling average than all the above.
