More... Northamptonshire sign Virender Sehwag for Twenty20 campaign • Last year's semi-finalists intent on improvement • I am delighted to join the county, says Indian batsman Press Association guardian.co.uk, Friday 12 March 2010 Virender Sehwag is set to play for Northamptonshire in this summer's Friends Provident Twenty20. The Steelbacks have announced the signing subject to approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Northamptonshire, Twenty20 Cup semi-finalists last year, are hoping the Indian batsman's destructive stroke play can help them go even further this time. Sehwag, top of the International Cricket Council rankings for Test batsmen, has played in 76 Tests and 220 one-day internationals in a prolific career. The 31-year-old, whose previous experience of county cricket came with Leicestershire, said of his new deal: "I am looking forward to the T20 campaign and I am delighted to have joined the county." Northamptonshire's chief executive, Mark Tagg, added: "This is absolutely fantastic news for the club and shows everyone that we want to continue our year-on-year improvement. We hope this shows our fans we are serious in our ambitions to become the best county cricket club in the country."

BCCI clears Sehwag playing for Northants Northamptonshire have received clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India to confirm Virender Sehwag available for their T20 campaign. World's No.1 batsman Sehwag will be joining the Northants in their campaign for Friends Provident T20 tournament. Northants Cheif executive Mark Tagg has expressed his relief and happiness over BCCI's clearance over Virender Sehwag. Speaking to BBC Radio Northampton Tagg said "The fact he's likely to miss a few of our games is just par for the course,". "To get a cricketer of his calibre - an Indian master blaster - is a massive coup for a county like us. "Yes, it's disappointing that we'll lose him for a few dates. But the overall impact is a huge benefit to the club. Northants announced the sign up of Sehwag earlier this month, but it was feared two international tournaments during the English season could severely restrict his availability. The club believes Sehwag is likely to be required for the Asia Cup between 15 and 25 June but may not be selected for an earlier triangular tournament in Zimbabwe. BCCI cancel Northants' Virender Sehwag signing The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have rescinded the 'no objection certificate' that allowed Sehwag to play for the county. More... Indian Board cancel Northants' Virender Sehwag signing Sehwag has played 76 Tests and 221 one-day internationals Northants will be without India international batsman Virender Sehwag in their Twenty20 line-up this season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have rescinded the 'no objection certificate' that allowed Sehwag to play for the county. Northants chief executive Mark Tagg told BBC Radio Northampton: "It's extremely disappointing for us. "It's annoying because you don't have a chance every year to have the world's best batsman on your books." Tagg said the BCCI had revoked the certificate (NOC) for all Indian-contracted players. A standard clause in the certificate allows countries to call on their players if selected. Sehwag is now required for the the triangular tournament in Zimbabwe and the Asia Cup. Shashank Manohar, president of the BCCI, said: "We have had to withdraw the no-objection certificate for Virender Sehwag because of our international commitments in Sri Lanka in June. "We are firstly playing in the Asia Cup and then in a triangular tournament along with Sri Lanka and New Zealand. "The television contract for this was only concluded eight days ago. I phoned [England and Wales Cricket Board chairman] Giles Clarke to explain the situation and he was fine about it." Somerset do not believe Murali Kartik will be affected, because he has not been named in any Indian international squad this summer. Surrey signing Piyush Chawla has been named in India's World Twenty20 squad. Surrey said they had not been contacted by the BCCI, and therefore had no reason to believe Chawla's availability would be affected. "We'd hoped that having waited for the NOC in the first place, all those issues would have been dealt with," said Tagg. "Virender himself was frustrated, he wasn't aware of the news. "It's disappointing not just for Northants Cricket and Virender, but mostly for the supporters."

Damn BCCI have to spoil everything. For some reason they believe they have the best training facilities for the players. They ban them from going to different academies than the ones they've set up and stop players from playing in other countries to help improve their game (this isn't about Sehwag, but overall)

International commitment comes first .. don't blame BCCI .. ECB too tried to spoil last year IPL by trying to stage SL series... and eventually they got in WI i think .. So its shouldn't be a prob for ECB or counties if we do the same .. And pls stop this attitude of wht we do is wrong and wht they do is right .. Try coming out of inferiority complex .. How many different academies tried to invite indians in early 90s or late 80s?? Australia didn't even invited India for almost 10years for an international tour .. England for almost 8 years and u talk abt county cricket??? Its just the language of money which the world understand .. Today its with us so they listen to us .. tomorrow it will be with someone else and they will not even entertain India .. So its better for Indian players to practice in India and not depend on foreign academies .. Btw BCCI go keep sending players for U19, U17 etc tournaments.. tht should be more than enough ..

If there is international duty, then its a different story, but BCCI tend to reject every opportunity for Indian players to go play outside of India.
