Re: Traffic in Bombay the reason, why bombay traffic looks seeminly much more than other metro cities is because it is a long city, rather than a circular kind of orientation... even though traffic in delhi or bangalore may look similar in volume, bombay commute is longer cos of the city shape....

Re: Traffic in Bombay well rajeev .. the situation has actually improved quite a bit from what it was a year ago. most of the critical roads in the western suburbs have been widened for the metro railway project. as a result there are far lesser traffic jams these days. however once the construction of the metro railways begins in full swing its gonna be

Delhi is certainly better than Bombay, and for that matter any other city in this regard. It is growing fast but growing all-around so to speak. The growth these days is much less in Delhi itself but more in the "suburbs" like Noida, Gurgaon all the way to Ghaziabad. Part of that is due to the structure. Delhi has land all-around it while Bombay faces sea on one-side. This ensures that Bombay is a "longish" kind of town(as Gator has correctly pointed out) while Delhi is more flattish that way. Another reason might be people's mentality. Even though Bombay has grown quite far along the longish stretch all the way to Virar and then some, as soon as people make money they start moving towards South Mumbai. Hence traffic south of Andheri is almost always crap. But if you go towards the other side - Malad to Borivali then its much better. Specially on the Eastern side. On western side you are against cramped for space. Frankly I do not see the situation improve in Mumbai, specially South Mumbai. There is just not space. High time people started moving out of South Mumbai. xxxx
