Fair Game
Now that australia qualify through asia for the soccer world cup and new zealand are trying to get in asian qualifying now why don't both those countrie join the 4 asian cricket countries in the asian cup. The tournament would be more competitive all round there would be more chance for a country to qualify rather than lose a couple of games and they can't make it and there would be more interest world wide on a viewing side of things. Ram
The Asia cup by itself is a failing experiment which will always be hostage to the prevailing geopolitical situation in South Asia at that time. The tournament by itself, has failed to catch in the last few years and even bilateral series like the Chappell-Hadlee trophy are more intense and interesting. The tournament was probably a brain-child of the powers-that-be in the subcontinent who just wanted another tournament to cash in on on the growing popularity of the ODI game and make a quick buck. But now, with so much T20 being played, there’s a genuine sense of fatigue and disinterest over these multi-lateral tournament among the South Asian cricket viewer. Why would sensible cricketing nations like Australia, New Zealand voluntarily take part in this mess? Link to comment
Ranjha
There are just too many cups. We should stop playing SriLanka if we want the odi cricket not to die. Link to comment

It is the overkill of Ind/SL matches and ODIs overall decline which is causing the concerns. This Asia Cup was far better than previous ones becuase of absence of minnows. This is icon tournament like Chappel-Hadlee and happens every 2 years. Instead of scrapping it altogether , change the format to 20/20 in next Asia Cup. Link to comment

Yes, since your *****y team hasn't won an ODI series in ages, just change the format, makes sense :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Link to comment
Manny_Pacquiao
yeah, changing the format makes sense if you are a paki, since pakistan has just ONE asia cup win compared to india and SL who have FIVE. *****tan have also been knocked out before the final three times in a row 2004, 2008 (AT HOME, LOLOLOL) and 2010, so it definitely makes sense. even with t20 format, they will get screwed.
