jusarrived
^ while most of us dread the day we have an indian team without Tendulkar , Dravid & VVS :(( Link to comment
Ram
He looks fit, seems in reasonable form but you get a sense he’s not going to hang around for too much longer. The biggest problem for him right now, with him not playing ODIs or T20s, is how does he keep match fit before every test series begins, especially when there’s significant gap b/w one test series and another. He doesn’t look out form, but he doesn’t look like in 100% rhythm either. With our unblemished record of losing the first test of every away series, it cannot do us any good if two of our middle order bats come into a series not having played competitive cricket for months together. We should find a way to keep both VVS and RD plugged in. Link to comment
yoda
These are professional cricketers out there to make a living' date=' fame, and a career. Just because some people have got 'tired of watching' top notch performances and excellence in the field, doesn't mean they should quit their careers. As for youngsters, there is one open slot at the moment which has not been filled effectively and permanently for the last 2 years. Once that slot is settled, the next one can be filled and so on......[/quote'] Kohli for one is ready and there isn't a spot for him now. Don't tell me Laxman has been oozing excellence on the field his average notwithstanding. wow. quite possibly the most pathetic reason i have ever heard for wanting to a player to retire. "i am bored of watching him play over and over again" :haha::haha: then don't watch. who is forcing you. let the real fans watch the best players representing the country So I take it you would happily watch Dravid play defense at 40 SR even when he is 50 years old as long as he is doing it at a 40-50 run average. Andy
Wat about Pujara? He deserves more than kohlis and Rohits more. Technically much beter. Dont guide balls outside offstump into the hands of the keeper. Link to comment
yoda
Wat about Pujara? He deserves more than kohlis and Rohits more. Technically much beter. Dont guide balls outside offstump into the hands of the keeper. All of them deserve a chance. Problem in Indian cricket is that players feel like they are entitled to their spot forever and fans don't like their heroes to depart ever. One of the reasons Murali gave for retiring is that he didn't want to block the way of a younger player any longer. So it is a factor. Link to comment
Manny_Pacquiao
So I take it you would happily watch Dravid play defense at 40 SR even when he is 50 years old as long as he is doing it at a 40-50 run average. 40? no. 60+ like he has done recently? sure. Link to comment
yoda
40? no. 60+ like he has done recently? sure. His career average was like 57 at one point and now is at 53. 3 of the last 4 years average below 40. don't tell me he isn't on a decline. Link to comment
Robin Hood
Time is up for Dravid pretty much. After the south african tour, the cricket board should be able to make a call whether Dravid should stay or go. I prefer Dravid exiting gracefully rather than being dropped and picked on and off later like jayasuriya. Link to comment
Manny_Pacquiao
His career average was like 57 at one point and now is at 53. 3 of the last 4 years average below 40. don't tell me he isn't on a decline. he isn't declining any more than tendulkar was a few years ago. every batsman has some lean runs. dravid had a really bad one from early 2007 til late 2008 when he wasnt scoring as many as usual. but since the 2008 england series, he has been averaging 59 and has scored 4 hundreds. and he was a massive player for india when they toured NZ. he wil continue to be a vital player for us when india goes on the road for lots of away series over the next 2 years. so all this talk of him retiring is stupid, especially when he will have a key role to play in the near future. if u think india can win a series in south africa without dravid, then you don't have your thinking cap on. urbestfriend
Come on! Dravid has it in him to play for another 2 years! His key presence is important for no 3, we've no good replacement for that position yet. Link to comment

achilles
I think Rahul Dravid has NO replacement in the current scenario. Its going to take a while before another player, capable of replacing him, steps up. So he's gonna play. Sachin Paaji has been in these situations 2-3 yrs back and we can see where he is today. Show_stopper
We never had a good replacement for the #6 slot as well...that didn't stop Ganguly from retiring, did it? Dravid should bow out with dignity rather than being asked to leave. In any other country (except Pak) he would have been asked to leave after his performances in 2006-2009 period. When he has been given longer rope than strictly required even for a person of his stature..we expect better returns that what he is providing at the moment. An average of 25.5 against Australia 35 against England 38 against Pak That is very poor. Sachin, Sehwag and even Laxman are averaging than 60 in the same period. Dravid's best performance is against the Lankans against whom he averages around 48..that too largely on the basis of home performance. Link to comment

Sachinism
If he doesn't perform against Aus, he could be going. I think the team would like to take him to SA but he needs to regain some form Link to comment
