kabira
Almost every time, tail of most teams contribute. Heck tailenders were high scorers for Padosis Tail saved England twice against Saffers. Tail won the game at Sydney when aussies looked down and out. Tail scored crucial runs in Perth, Nagpur against Aussies. What has changed?? I think its due to mindset of captains. They seem to be defensive more so when specialist batsman is batting at the other end. Link to comment

King Tendulkar
All players practice their batting now. I know the england tail practice their batting exactly the same amount as the frontline batters and am sure this is same for all teams now. Gone are the days when the bowler would declare my job is bowling and yours is batting! Link to comment
kabira
Bossbhai, can we have stats on partnerships by 8th, 9th and 10th wicket for last 2 years. Just average per country will be good. Link to comment

Sachinism
Teams place a lot of importance of bowlers being able to bat. So they spend a lot time in the nets batting. Also players know if they can bat a bit as well as bowl, they'll increase their chances of selection at times Link to comment

The Outsider
A combination of some factors : 1. Tailenders putting in much more work in their batting. 2. Lack of emphasis of planning out dismissals for tailend batsmen. 3. Depleted bowling attacks - lack of genuine pace/reverse swing bowlers and top level spinners who could run through tails. 4. Better batting conditions. 5. Protective gear. Link to comment
achilles
Simple - The concept of a genuine bowler, who is a mug with the bat and can't bat to save his life, is virtually nonexistent today. Link to comment

Sooda
Bowlers across the world are generally pretty average...fewer genuine pacemen who can 'clean up tails' ...york the lower order batters out... 15 years ago, the top teams had a at least one world class paceman Link to comment
kabira
^so Steyn and Morkel are not class paceman??? Link to comment
