Now win Man of the Match awards in domestic games Nikhilesh Bhattacharya, Hindustan Times Cuttack, October 23, 2010 Come November 1, players will have one more incentive to do well in domestic cricket. Beginning with the Ranji Trophy, every senior game will have a Man-of-the-Match award constituting R25,000. “The award has been introduced as part of our deal with Airtel for supporting domestic cricket,” Ratnakar Shetty, the chief administrative officer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), told the Hindustan Times from Mumbai on Friday. Bharti Airtel recently won series sponsorship rights to all international matches to be played in India till 2013, having earlier sponsored the Champions League T20 tournament. “The match referee in consultation with the two umpires will select the Man of the Match. Every senior match will have this award of R 25,000,” Shetty added. Match referees are now posted at all BCCI matches, including junior and women's. A miscommunication within the board has meant that Man-of-Match awards are being announced even at the East Zone T20 matches here, but Shetty clarified that the award will be introduced from the first round of Ranji Trophy matches, which will begin on November 1. “We will inform the match referees and the umpires at the matches concerned,” he said. “The All-India knockout stage of the Twenty20 tournament, which is played for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, will have Man-of-the Match awards,” Shetty added. That tournament is scheduled towards the end of the season, in March 2011. Ever since the Indian Cricket League (ICL) lured away players with hefty annual pay packets about three years ago, BCCI has made an effort to make the domestic circuit more lucrative. The ICL is now consigned to history and the board's version of it, the Indian Premier League (IPL), has made multi-millionaires out of a lot of cricketers. Still there are lots of players in the domestic circuit who will welcome the chance to win R25,000 in every game they take part in. We are now getting sponsors for our domestic trophies and even Ranji players will be winning MoM. This kind of attention from sponsors is always superb for domestic cricket. Will BCCI now please pay attention to the format of Ranji, the wickets provided for the competition and make it more attractive to the spectators, please?

Finally Ranji Trophy is becoming attractive and a career option -- hopefully should encourage cricketers to stick to it. In my younger days -- club level cricketers from Orissa used to clamor to play for University and represent the state, at least at the junior level, for one and only reason -- to get a job in one of the laid back govt services like SAIL or RBI. It was very sad to see what they aimed for.

Tuesday 26th October 2010 Tiwary named Bengal skipper Bengal selectors passed the Ranji captaincy baton to Manoj Tiwary who led the state in the zonal leg of the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy. Skipper for the last two seasons, Laxmi Ratan Shukla has also been named in the 15-member side to play against Delhi in their season opener from November 1-4. Tiwary, 24, who has featured in an ODI against Australia, had a brilliant run in the East Zone leg of the T20 tournament in Cuttack. "He did well in the T20 and he is talented. We have decided to name him the skipper for the season," chairman of Bengal selection committee Sambaran Banerjee told PTI. He further said allrounder Shukla is a key member of the side. "I am sure he will be burden-free after captaincy was taken from him. We want to keep him pressure-free... He is an integral member of our set-up." Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was not available for selection. "Ganguly will not play the first two matches, we will see afterwards," Banerjee said. Who? :hmmm: Shukla's actually a decent List A player.
Must say never ever impressed by him. He is a bits and Pieces player, Like Jadu. Though much beter :P Not a good bowler who can win matches on his own, neither a solid Batsman. Tiwary is Talented, has wide Range of Strokes and is a stroke maker. He was scoring heavily in Ranjis till 2007-2008. In a Nutshell, Tiwary has more chance to do well against Quality teams than Shukla.

There are several reasons to it, His form, His attitude problems he had (What i heard about), Injuries, Selectors prefered useless players like Jaadu over him, even Rohit for that matter. Captain didnt show much faith in him, he was happy to give chances after Chances to established Failures like Rohit and Jaadu. And this guy Toured Australia, played two balls and the second ball he faced from Brett Lee was a Yorker. So as a player i dont know how bad or how good he would have been, had he got enough chances.

I haven't seen him in Ranjis though, in IPL 4 he was okay. Poor man's IKP I'd say :--D Tiwary I agree, he can be a good limited overs playa, better than Saurabh (from what I've seen). Though I don't see him getting selected for the national squad.
