Dharmani to lead Punjab, Yuvraj included Press Trust of India Posted: Thu Oct 28 2010, Mohali Pankaj Dharmani was named captain of the Punjab Ranji Trophy squad that also included out-of-favour India middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh. The state senior selection committee met here and announced a 15-member team for the first two Ranji Trophy matches, against Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. The first match against Uttar Pardesh will be played from November 1-4 at Meerut while the match against Karnataka will be held from November 10-13 at PCA Stadium, Mohali. The meeting was attended by selection committee chairman Chaman Lal Malhotra, Balbir Singh (Patiala), Harvinder Singh (Amritsar), Harjinder Singh (Jalandhar) and Bhupinder Singh Sr, a Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) spokesman said. Medium pacer Navdeep Singh of Jalandhar and opening batsman Sarul Kanwar of Chandigarh are the two debutants in the team while pacer Love Ablish has been ruled out of the squad due to hairline fracture in his right hand finger. Three new faces in Gujarat Ranji squad Prathmesh, Rohit and Rajdeep picked for Ranji Trophy match against Railways More... Three new faces in Gujarat squad Prathmesh, Rohit and Rajdeep picked for Ranji Trophy match against Railways Ahmedabad Mirror Bureau Posted On Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 03:13:28 AM 22-1.jpg Prathmesh Parmar An emphasis on youth has prompted selectors to name three uncapped players in the 15-member Gujarat squad that will take on Railways in their opening Ranji Trophy tie to be played in Delhi next Wednesday. The selectors rewarded Prathmesh Parmar, Rohit Dahiya and Rajdeeb Darbar for their consistent performance in local and junior cricket. The team will be led by Parthiv Patel and Niraj Patel will be his deputy. The team that has been announced by the selectors on Wednesday is only for the match against Railways. The bowling is in the hands of experienced pros. Siddharth Trivedi will be leading the pace attack that also sees the return of left-arm seamer Ashraf Makda from injury. Mohnish Parmar will spearhead the spin attack with leggie Salil Yadav providing him support. 22-2.jpg Rajdeep Darbar Jay Desai has retained his place while Priyank Panchal has been recalled to the side. The third option the team management has for opener’s slot is uncapped Rajdeep Darabar who has scored plenty of runs in domestic cricket. The middle-order boasts of plenty of experience with Parthiv Patel, Niraj Patel and Bhavik Thaker shouldering the burden. The inclusion of Prathmesh Parmar will add more impetus to the batting line-up. Though Gujarat clinched the tri-nation tournament in Kenya and won their four-day match in Nairobi in August, they had a disastrous outing in the West Zone T20 tournament that concluded in Vadodara last week. 22-3.jpg Rohit Dahiya But skipper Parthiv Patel is not willing to read too much to the winless campaign in Vadodara. “ T20 is a totally different format. Ranji Trophy is a different ball game. The team performed really well in Kenya. We hope to start our campaign against Railways on a bright note,” the Gujarat skipper said. The selectors also picked the Gujarat team for the U-22 team for the first two matches against Bengal and Assam. Dhruv Raval has been appointed captain. Gujarat Ranji Squad: Parthiv Patel (capt), Niraj Patel, Bhavik Thaker, Priyank Panchal, Jay Desai, Rajdeeb Darbar, Sahil Patel, Siddharth Trivedi, Prathmesh Parmar, Salil Yadav, Mohnish Parmar, Ishwar Choudhary, Rohit Dahiya, Ashraf Makda, Jayesh Makla

How old is Dharmani ? I am hearing his name for over a decade now' date=' it is god time BCCI puts a retiring age in domestic circle, if you are 33+, time to take VRS[/quote'] Everyone deserves to make a living. He is not good to play international and he has devoted his time to cricket..prolly doesnt have any other skills..who is gonna put food on his table? I think as long as he merits a place in the team, why not? I doubt he is taking the place of a potential young superstar.

Do you think it is good time that the ICC puts a retiring age in international cricket, 33+ and they should take VRS :hmmm:

Yes, I kind of agree with that. If you are good enough and have passion to play, you should be selected. Sunil Joshi still makes it to relatively stronger Karnataka team.

Not that I am forcing him to retire, every state cricketer should have a decently good job. You have to be a criminal to not have a job after playing state cricket.

Assam Ranji squad named Assam all-rounder Gokul Sharma staged a comeback while left arm spinner Prakash Bhagat is the only new face in the 15-member state Ranji Trophy squad for the first match. More... Assam squad named A STAFF REPORTER RANJI TROPHY 28regranji.jpg The Assam Ranji Trophy team with team officials at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday. Guwahati, Oct. 27: Assam all-rounder Gokul Sharma staged a comeback while left arm spinner Prakash Bhagat is the only new face in the 15-member state Ranji Trophy squad for the first match against Tamil Nadu in Chennai from November 1 to 4. The squad will, however, miss the services of Mumbai Indians paceman Abu Nechim Ahmed who is recuperating from a hand injury. Assam will participate in the elite group of the apex domestic tournament after a gap of over five years. The team is pitted against Tamil Nadu, Railways, Bengal, Mumbai, Delhi, Gujarat and Saurashtra in Group A. Barring the match against Gujarat, which will be held here from December 8 to 11, Assam will play all the other matches at away venues. Mumbai professional Amol Mazumdar, who led the team last year to qualify for the elite group, has been retained as skipper and all-rounder Dhiraj Goswami his deputy. The team will leave from here on Friday. Silchar youngster Prakash Bhagat, who has been a consistent performer at state-level tournaments for the last few years, will be the only rookie in the campaign. “The selectors are of the view that Bhagat has been in form and will be effective in away wickets,” said ACA secretary Bikash Baruah while naming the team formally this afternoon. For coach Subhrajit Saikia, the spin attack would be his “only area of worry, because Arlen Konwar will have to handle it almost single-handedly as Prakash Bhagat will be too inexperienced for this level of cricket in the elite group.” Skipper Muzumdar, however, felt it was “a balanced side and we are looking to a great season ahead.” Abu Nechim Ahmed will be missing the first couple of matches and in his absence, the team's pace attack would be handled by Dhiraj Goswami, Sujoy Tarafdar, Pritam Das and Ranjeet Mali. When it was pointed out that the outstation recruits Muzumdar, Dheeraj Jadhav and S. Sriram did not click during the recent East Zone T20 tournament in Orissa, the ACA secretary said: “I have discussed it with the players as well as the experts. They were all of the view that T20 and Ranji Trophy are different ball games. We are all hopeful that they will deliver the best in the Ranji Trophy.” The squad: Amol Muzundar (capt), Dhiraj Goswami (vc), Kunal Saikia (wk), Dheeraj Jadhav, Parvez Aziz, Abhijit Singha Roy, S. Sriram, Tarjinder Singh, Deepak Sharma, Gokul Sharma, Arlen Konwar, Ranjeet Mali, Pritam Das, Sujoy Tarafdar and Prakash Bhagat. Manager: Ajay Sarma, Coaches: Subhrajit Saikia, Subhadeep Ghosh, Bowling coach: Zaved Zaman, Physio: Prasenjit Bhattacherjee, Trainer: Nishant Thakur. Standbys: Utpal Medhi, Chanakya Sarma, Chandan Rawat, Rajdeep Das and Bichitra Baruah.

Keralite bowler finds place in TN Ranji squad Young fast bowler Sunil Sam from Kerala has been included in the Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy squad that will play the elite division league matches this season. More... Keralite bowler finds place in TN Ranji squad PTI | Oct 29,2010 Kochi: Young fast bowler Sunil Sam from Kerala has been included in the Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy squad that will play the elite division league matches this season. Sunil, who hails from Kollam, is a trainee of MRF Pace Foundation and was also the first reserve of Chennai under-22 team last year. He has also participated in net sessions for Indian Premier League side Chennai Super Kings, a Kerala Cricket Association release said today. Association Secretary T C Mathew congratulated Sunil for finding a place in the Ranji squad. Tamil Nadu, one of the best balanced Ranji trophy teams, are aiming to win the title after 22 years. Two good openers, a more than decent middle-order, a capable all-rounder, a wicketkeeper who can change the course of the game with his bat, an experienced new ball attack and two spinners who are seen as future India prospects. The Tamil Nadu team for Ranji trophy has got it all. It’s only ironical to say that despite being the most balanced and richly talented side in the competiton the last time Tamil Nadu laid their hands on the coveted Ranji Trophy was in 1987-88. The talented Badrinath wants bygones to be bygones and start afresh. “Past is past. We were the best team in the competition last year. But that didn’t result in a title win,” he said. “This year we will need to play to our potential. We will be called the top team only if we win the title. We have to do well in the league stage and carry on that form and hunger into the knockout stage. Once the team is in the last eight, you can’t afford to lose even one session during the match. One has to peak at the right moment.” The Squad: Dinesh Karthik (c/wk), Subramaniam Badrinath, Srikkanth Anirudha, Arun Karthik,Ravichandran Ashwin, Aushik Srinivas, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Napoleon Einstein,Chandrasekar Ganapathy, Yo Mahesh,Abhinav Mukund, Murthy Prabhu, Sunil Sam, Rajagopal Sathish,Kuthethurshri Vasudevadas
