As for Bodyline crap, I see that happen in themodern cricket in every game. On bouncy tracks, it becomes a huge factor as one reason why there can;t be anyone who can consistently score at higher average.
yawn You are forgetting about the leg-side fielders dude. Bodyline tactics made it impossible to score when applied correctly as the only place you can hit the ball had men waiting there. And unlike drives, you cannot keep a short ball on the ground when those fielders were close.

You can do that now too by keeping 2 fielders behind square move the keeper to the legside a shortleg that is just standing just outside the crease and for added effect have a silly mid-on and a sill mid-off. (In fact this field is set when Harbi is bowling ) The thing is they just dont do it now because its a waste of fielders as it makes no difference as opposed to keeping one shortleg and a silly point.
Check this if you have trouble comprehending a Bodyline field. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00249/CRICKET_249774a.gif There are also maximum number of bouncers rule and Helmets today. Are you really this naive?

Dude I can tell you personally that wearing a helmet takes a big load off your shoulders, it helps with getting forward to fast bowlers etc etc And the reason why many cricketers in the 30s don't get hit on the head as much as today is because they were taking evasive actions. Batsmen of today don't do that and rather take the blow then lose their wicket.

Yaa .... apparantly BCL and Hussey some of the best batsmen arent aware of this going by those clips ... wonder why :hmmm: ... anyhow heres another clip this time of Rahul Dravid going to hospital .. seems like he wasnt aware of the benfits of a helmet as well that too against the mighty Shahdat Hossain on a lightning fast pitch in Bangla-land.
Wonder what would have happened to him if he wasn't wearing a helmet...
Just watch Tendulkar , VVS and Dravid bat against bouncers and short pitch bowling 9 out of 10 times they are taking evasive action. This is true for most modern players ... they do that because they have realized that the percentages arent in their favour doing anything else.
Nah it's because they can't play the hook shot. :giggle: Many non-SC players would take on that delivery and succeed because there are no men on the leg-side to catch it. Even if you put a short fine leg, the batsmen can easily negotiate it either side of him.

your point was that it allows them to go on the front foot .. no ?
Yes... what is your point?
Really ? Go watch SRT sending Caddick out of the stadium in that 2003 WC game ... or RD hooking Gillespie to reach his 200 ... they very well can play that shot they just arent compulsive hookers.
OMG 2 whole deliveries! :hysterical: Others play it almost as much as a cover drive. I think that is the definition of not being good at a shot.

Sachin's hook is what legends are made of. :hail: mZ9E81QkbLs

This thread is not about who can play the hook shot or not. But more about the typical Sachin fanboys ignoring reality and substituting their own. I have already proven you wrong on many occasions and you keep adjusting the goalposts and changing the subject. Good day to you. :finger:

What amazes is that we have 1000s of video clips of cricket played of late (say 1990s onwards) but we still struggle to find a handful of clips where bowlers have rattled the batsmen. Now what's stupid is when some folks go around looking for those few clips amongst 1000s available and then compare it with very little footage we have of bowling in Bradsman's era. It would probably be similar to someone posting how Tendulkar hit Warne, how Lara hit Murali, and then post a few clips of Viv Richards smashing spinners of his time to show that Tendulkar and Lara play spin a lot better than Viv

A few points to be addressed. Yes there was sledging involved back in the 30s. During the BL series Jardine had told his team to not to call him Don Bradman, but to refer to him as 'the little b@stard' - May not be like what we've seen lately but I'm sure it had its effect in the 'gentlemanly' game There was also video analysis done, where do you think they come up with the tactic from if there wasn't any pre-match planning?
