With just 5 ODIs to go, what will be India's WC squad?

12 ODIs : 7 home, 5 away That is what we have remaining before the Worldcup. Shouldn't we have identified our final 15 by now and start playing with those together? SRT/VS/GG (Vijay) Raina/Yuvraj/Kohli (Rohit/Pujara) Dhoni (Karthik/Uthappa) Harbhajan/Jadeja/Ashwin (Ojha) Zaheer/Sreesanth/Ishant (Praveen) That is my provisional 13. Another 2 picked from those in bracket. Probably one more Wk/ and a middle order bat . It is these 20 I would like to play together in ODIs for the next 3 months and finalise our 15 from it. It seems to me though that our selectors are going to keep testing the combos till the cut off date for squad submission.

Which Players can fit in the few World Cup slots left? India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hinted before the start of the One-day International series against Australia that the upcoming matches provides youngsters a chance to seal a berth in the World Cup squad. India plays just 12 one-dayers before the World Cup in February -- two against Australia, five against New Zealand and five in South Africa. With senior players being rested for the current Australia series, it gives a good chance for youngsters like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to impress the selectors and push for a berth in the squad. Dhoni made it clear that eight or nine senior players are sure to make it to the World Cup, barring injuries. However, there may be a few slots to be filled, like a fast bowler, an all-rounder and a big-hitting batsman down the order. "There are quite a few spots available depending upon the performance of the individual. It's also about what criteria the team wants to go with -- whether they want an all-rounder, or stick with a batsman to work away with a part-timer. The slots will be open for quite some time now," he had said. Kohli has proved his potential While a player's recent form will be considered, it is clear the selectors will also take into account the players' showing in the last year or so. They will look at the top ten batsmen and bowlers, and how consistent their performances were in the last two years. Also, they will see which players fared well as all-rounders. A look at the batsmen's chart since January clearly shows that the senior players played a crucial part in the teams consistent showing. Dhoni stands out with a tally of 1798 runs in 46 matches; so does Sachin Tendulkar (1176 runs in 23 games). Young Virat Kohli too has proved his potential, scoring 968 runs in 29 matches (second ODI vs Australia not included). Yuvraj Singh struggled recently, but still manages a respectable tally of 954 runs in 32 games. He faces a stiff competition for a slot in the middle order from Kohli and Rohit Sharma (562 runs in 22 games). I want to see India winning the WC and not getting embarrassed like '07, we still haven't freezed on the final 15 yet, which is lame really. All the players have got sufficient rest, except Dhoni perhaps. Sachin never plays most ODIs (but play IPL/CL) :cantstop: Sehwag / Gambhir / Zaheer have skipped many matches/tournaments in the past year Dravid/VVS plays only one format who else needs rest

There are Tests in the middle' date=' so the Test players who are also in ODIs, will be given rest unless you want them to pick up injuries due to nonstop calendar leading to WC[/quote']

From SA series onwards, we should be playing our final 15 for the WC. Prior to the 2007 WC, we made so many changes to the team leading to the WC, which was quite annoying. Ganguly, Uthappa, Gabhir, Sehwag all batted as openers in the ODI series vs SL and WI before the WC. Even during the warmups, there seemed to be plan at all. As a result, the 11 that played the first WC match vs BD had not played together even once!! Uthappa had not batted at 3 during the matches leading to the WC, there were far too many changes made in the batting and bowling combinations which perhaps left the players confused on their roles in the team. Hopefully this time, we have learned lessons from that shock exit and will enter the competiiton with better planning and a settled team.

My Squad of 15 will be : Sachin Tendulkar Virender Sehwag Gautam Gambhir Yuvraj Singh Suresh Raina Virat Kohli Cheteshwar Pujara MS Dhoni Ravindra Jadeja Praveen Kumar Ashish Nehra Harbhajan Singh Pragyan Ojha Zaheer Khan Munaf Patel If Sreesanth shows glimpses of being a better Limited Overs bowler than Munaf Patel, surely he will be in the Squad instead of Munna.

Man seriously Jadeja? Rest is fine, we can try out a hard hitting batter like Tiwary at number 7.
