What's happened to Ponting?

He looks like an amateur... even some of the Bangladeh players looked more composed than him and that is saying something considering Bangladesh has been shot out for 100 twice. Majority of the Aussie batters look so vulnerable and ugly to watch. This is certainly not the Ponting I have watched over the years. This guy seems like he is batting with a donut, all edges no middle.

I guess the comparison between Sachin and Ricky ended long time back!
This is not about comparison, how can such a top class batsman lose it all in such quick time? Current Ricky Ponting can't even find the middle of the bat more than once or twice after 5 hits.

He was never great IMO .. He just batted well cos with so many class players in the team there was no pressure on him .. So once the pressure is there u can see where he actually belongs .. Sachin on other hand started playing under pressure and even after 20 years still plays under pressure .. With useless bowlers and some idiotic batsman in the side he is always under the pressure to carry the team through .. Fitness wise ponting was always very fit but mentally very very weak ..

Even in that match, Gilly and Hayden had given a start of about 140/1 in 16 overs when he came in. Our bowlers were pulverised and under pressure by the time he came in. Taking nothing away from that innings, its something most greats have never achieved and is one of the best of all times. but dont think he was under much pressure in that innings at any times. Lets see him doing the same in this WC without senior players

There is no one to protect him. Hayden and Gilly both have retired. Nuff said.

Ponting is great for sure. Comon mates, this is way too much now. He's been one of the greats in Tests for sure. Even I don't rate him that much in ODIs but in Tests he's been awesome. ave a look at the way he played in the 2005 Ashes. That stamps his class. Specially the 4th test where he batted all alone to save that test.

Come on man, you can't just say that now because he's had a few years off his game.. It's a cheap shot man, he was a great great player.. I hope he still has a few good knocks in him and he can do them in the WC. He needs to start performing, simple as that.. Put it this way, if his name wasn't Ricky Ponting he would of been dropped a while ago. Our best batsman this tournament looks to be Clarke.

Combination of slowing reflexes with age (and an unwillingess to temper his game considering that - he is still hell bent on trying to play the pull shot like in his prime) and the pressure of leading a fading team after all those years of glory with McGrath, Warne, Hayden etc. playing for him. At the least, he should quit ODI cricket and move down the order in Tests.

i agree, after all every team has atleast 5 players in their team who have scored over 13k ODI runs, avg 42+ and close to 30 ODI century
