DesiChap
Wright to be head coach at CoE A STAFF REPORTER & AGENCIES Calcutta: There was disappointment for those within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) who were in favour of bringing back New Zealander John Wright as Team India coach. Among those who wanted to give him a second term — his first lasted from November 2000 till April 2005 — was former BCCI president Raj Singh Dungarpur. According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, Wright is all set to take over as the head coach of Australia’s Centre of Excellence (CoE). He will fill in the post left vacant by Tim Nielson, who took over as Australia’s coach after the World Cup. The Christchurch-based Wright will now be required to move to Brisbane, where the Centre of Excellence is located, and will also be in charge of Australia’s A team, the newspaper reported. Wright, who was India’s coach before Greg Chappell, was earlier tipped to take over as Pakistan’s coach. The 52-year-old played 82 Tests for New Zealand before starting his coaching career Link to comment
King
Not bad Wright still wants to be connected with the Indian team. Good to hear that. Whatever happened to Pakistan's attempt to getting Wrighty to coach them? Link to comment
Lurker
Quite interesting to see that. It must be an extremely rare occassion that a non-Australian has been asked to coach at one of the High levels of Australian cricket. How relevant is this COE in Australian cricket by the way? xxxx Link to comment
King
Fairly relevant I would think, they will drench full value for what they pay the Aussies. There is no slacking in the job when on such good pay scale. Link to comment
Lurker
Good to hear that Ravi. Wright is a good coach and his man management skills are specially splendid. How rare is it to have Kiwi act as a coach in a high profile position for Kangaroos? Would most likely be a first in cricket. How about rugby? Link to comment
King
Kiwis rule in Rugby (In the last one decade the fortunes have changed what with the Aussies catching up). Kiwi rugby x-players are most sought after in every rugby playing nation including the likes of japan. A lot of x-players end up going everywhere. Our domestic cricket teams import coaches from Australia. Link to comment
