Ambati Rayudu

he was touted as the next big thing for India in his early days. He has probably more talent than someone like Raina and Dinesh Karthik who were his u19 team-mates (Rayudu was the captain) But politics and later joining ICL spoilt his career. Kudos to :mi: for reviving his career. One of the big plusses of IPl is that talent like him will shine out.

How has he performed on the domestic circuit? Has he been part of India A squads? Those performances should be preferred over IPL performances.
He was Baroda's highest scorer but nowhere near the best, Badrinath almost score the double of his total in lesser innings

Shivlal Yadav and the HCA nearly lost us this wonderful talent. Thanks to IPL he is back in the reckoning again. Looks like a proper attacking batsman with a sound technique against both pace and spin. Hopefully he continues hs good form and then forces the selectors to pick him for the national side.

No chance of rayudu getting into the side. We have too many batsmen. And yes, his stint with baroda was not so great. He played some real good knocks for Hyderabad. But lured by ambani's money, he switched the loyalties to baroda, so that he could be part of MI. Hyderabad wanted him, but he wanted to "move on" to Baroda. And yes he cited the lame reason that Hyderabad as relegated to plate division and that he wanted to play elite league.

I have been an ardent fan of his even before he shot to glory, even before he joined ICL. He is such an awesome player. Agreed he might be inconsistent, but on present form, atleast give him a game. The reason why he was not selected all of last year was because he had a 1 year waiting period under the BCCI amnesty scheme for ICL players, to be considered for selection.

There is a certain Mr Shivlal Yadav who was the sole reason why most of Hyderabad Raji players moved to ICL. Yadav's dislike for Rayudu is clearly documented. No wonder post his ICL comeback, Rayudu chose to look the other way and decided not to play for Hyderabad.

A blistering unbeaten 63 off 50 balls under the watchful eyes of Sachin Tendulkar may have given a fresh lease of life to Ambati Rayudu's aspiration to play for India. Seven years ago, Rayudu was India's under-19 captain but found himself sidelined later. But he found himself in the spotlight last night as his rollicking unbeaten knock in the IPL match against Royal Challengers Bangalore prompted his captain Tendulkar to make the magnanimous gesture of sharing the man-of-the-match award with him. The batting icon handed over the cheque of Rs. one lakh to the youngster. As soon as the presenter Robin Jackman announced Tendulkar's name as man-of-the-match, the Mumbai Indians captain walked up with Rayudu and announced, "It will be bad if I don't share this with Rayudu". "It was a brilliant innings from the young man Rayudu. It was a special stuff," the maestro said. The 26-year-old Rayudu was hailed as a prodigious batting talent when he started his career in 2001 but for some reason he could not do justice to his immense potential. "To be honest, the wicket was slow up front and improved as the game went on. But I'm really happy today. I would like to thank Sachin sir and Robin Singh. Sachin sir just told me to have patience. I am glad we ended up winning the game," Rayudu said. Rayudu was selected to represent India's under 19 team for the tour of England in 2002 and scored 177 and 80 to lead his team to a 3-0 victory. Rayudu, who currently plays for Baroda in the Ranji Trophy, captained the India under-19 team in the 2004 Under-19 Cricket World Cup and also became a regular in the India-A squad. But a prolonged lean patch and differences with the Hyderabad Cricket Association officials prompted him to leave Hyderabad and play for Andhra. His batting form deserted him and he got involved in a number of controversies which had a bearing on his career. Disillusioned by his failure to make it big, he joined the rebel Indian Cricket League in 2007 and was banned by the BCCI. He returned to domestic cricket following an amnesty offer from the Board. It was a call from Tendulkar which led to Rayudu joining Mumbai Indians last year and the youngster has justified the faith his captain had shown on him.

I like his temperament and he should also be in contention for the vacant place in the team once Sachin retires in a few years. His limited over skills are quite impressive though not sure about the test format though the chances of vacancies in the test format are more.
