King
Do you guys acknowledge the efforts of Venkatesh Prasad and Robin Singh at all? Ravi Shastri hogged the lime light while Prasad and Singh did the hard work participating in the training sessions. Both are available for long contracts but they aren't awarded one. Ravi Shastri doesn't want to continue as a coach but people want him to continue. The bowling department did pretty well in the 2nd test on a placid pitch. India lost only 4 wickets and that does tell a story. Bangladesh lost 20 wickets in a space of a day. Do you guys reckon Zaheer, RP and the rest benefitted from having Prasad as a bowling coach at all? Link to comment
suma25
iguess it is too early too telll whetehr they have actually benefitted or not. they may have taken wickets on a placid track but against a a very poor batting line up and the fielding was poor as usual ...but yeah they deserve to have their contact extended just dropping them after the bangladesh series wud be stupid.... wud be interesting england series though if zaheer khan keeps up his form and rp singh if selected for the test..... The Outsider
Ravi, its impossible to say whether the second test bowling performance had anything to do with coaching over such a short period of time. The same bowlers looked completely out of sorts in the first test. But I do agree that if the Indian bowlers and team is comfortable with having them and feel they benefited a long term contract should be offered immediately, atleast till the end of the Aussie tour. dial_100
Yea...tru it is hard to say just as yet. But one thing is sure that they both will help our team build up very well. They are hard working and they hail from the same international team. They have played with half of these players before..So IMHO, we will soon these two officially offered a contract. Venk pRasad and Robin were both of my very fav players... So I personally want to offer them this job. Link to comment
Predator_05
Both Prasad and Robin Singh have the necessary coaching experience. They ran successful outfits at youth level and have the pedigree. It's too early to judge them and they deserve a chance to prove themselves. Link to comment
Ram
I say offer them a contract , doesnt matter for how long it is.. i think its a criminal waste of money to hire foreigners for 6 figure dollar salaries for posts in the indian team. Its time to promote past indian players. The physio or the trainer are the ones i am O.K with...vis-a-vis hiring specialists from other countries.. Link to comment
King
Moreover it is ridiculous to ask Prasad and Robin Singh to continue as bowling and fielding coaches without letting them plan their future. How are they going to plan their careers if they aren't told how long they are going to be in the current job? Link to comment

King
Why not? They can engage in other stuff with the media. I know Robin Singh was with Zee TV on one of those cricket related shows. Now he cannot continue simply because he is engaged here. Similarly with Prasad. He was coaching a junior team I guess but he won't have time for that now. More than anything how will they put in place any long term plan? Coaching involves more long term planning than short term. Link to comment
THX_1138
if nothing, these two certainly bring fitness to the team. both these blokes, one in his 40s and the other in his late 30s are fitter than half the team and that is a lesson that many would learn with these two being persistently about them. novpj
Well this was the issue with interim appointment. I dont think it makes sense to give them a contract - the new coach should be allowed a say in hiring his support staff. Link to comment

apocalypse
I agree that the new coach must have his say in appointing the staff. If we get good results in the England series they should be rewarded with contracts Link to comment

What difference can they make in such short while? It is so absurd to hire a fielding and bowling coach for a test and ODI series against Bangladesh  Link to comment

Maybe Shastri specifically asked for them. And yea , the new coach should pick the other team staff. Link to comment
THX_1138
prasad and fit does not go side by side what are you talking about? the man bowled tirelessly for over 7 years partnering srinath and then kuruvilla and then whoever else was in favor with the selection party that month. He bowled tirelessly for hours upon hours on pitched deader than a mummy in advance rigor mortis and had the patience of a chopping block when jayasuriya in his prime hammered every indian bowler all over the sub continent on placid and insipid pitches. the few opportunities he had to bowl on lively surfaces, he grabbed them with open hands. first in the england on debut and then again in south africa and had it not been for our brittle batting in both those tours, we might have emerged victors. if nothing, respect the man. he was not brilliant and had limited talent but had a heart bigger than you and i could get our hands around! apocalypse
talent.... are you kidding I have great respect for srinath but he had a bad partner in the opening bowling attack. A guy who struggles to bowl at a decent medium pace opening the bowling attack for India. Link to comment
