Vijay.Sharma
9 FC games in close to 5 years and a bowling average of 44. Clearly he isn't as good as what people are making him out to be.Maybe this IPL performance is the shot he needed in his arm to turn around his career. It's amazing what a little confidence can do to us. Getting Sachin out and following that up with amazing spells may be an indication that he is turning a page as far as his career is concerned. His bowling figures this IPL in chronological order O-M-R-W Innings (Opp Score) 2-0-12-0 1 (112/8) 4-0-18-1 1 (148/8) 4-0-29-1 2 (190/7) 3-0-14-1 2 (124/3) 4-0-27-1 1 (142/6) 4-0-27-0 2 (145/2) 4-0-27-2 1 (181/5) 3-1-13-3 2 (144/4) 4-0-7-2 1 (160/7) Excellent figures! kabira
we still don't know if he can bowl long spells? thats unknown. Will he have same control if he bowls 7-8 over spells? Link to comment
Vijay.Sharma
we still don't know if he can bowl long spells? thats unknown. Will he have same control if he bowls 7-8 over spells? That's why this Ranji season will be a very interesting one to follow...given that he would be confident now about his own abilities we should see how he bowls in the longer format. But as a T20 prospect he looks good Link to comment

vijay810
And also that midfield 4 from Jesse Lookd good bowler. Height is advantage. If he has control then good. Bounce seems his asset but a little more spin and he will be class for sure. Bounce with little more spin will do wonders for him. Link to comment

So let him go back to FC cricket and take a bucket full of wickets next season. Looking at the hype on ICF, I'm sure that the selectors will also be watching his performance. If he does well, pick him. I'm not in favour of picking guys who have done jack **** in FC cricket. Link to comment

Good point in the Ashwin/Sharma comparison, that even though Ashwin's IPL performances caught the eye, he had a solid grounding in first-class cricket before that, unlike Sharma. Link to comment
ganeshran
We need a leg spinner now that its proved beyond doubt that Chawla is a POS. Rahul Sharma can fill the void if he is able to cope at the international level. Surely deserves a chance. Link to comment

vvvslaxman
Another criteria for selection "Dismiss Sachin in challenger trophy" you are sure shot for selection. Both Chawla and Sreesanth got instant promotion due to this. Irani Trophy used to have a major say alongwith Ranji semi and finals. Then the focus shifted to under-19 and India 'A' performance. Each method has worked in its own way. Each method has failed in its own way. There are certain players you can tell they will fail at the international regardless of the competition. It was foolish to select Gony. Because Gony was not a great bowler even in IPL. He got some lucky wickets. Otherwise he was murdrered on most of the occasions. In Rahul Sharma's case he could be very hand in T20 scenario where batsmen will take chance. it is hard to go after him. For other formats he has to do well at the first class level. Is he better than Chawla. Most certainly yes. Is he as good a sensation as Bishoo. No. Definitely not. You cannot fast-track every performer in IPL. That is where you have to use your cricketing brain. Not the brain of average fan. You cannot discount everyone especially bowlers as T20 is heavily batsman oriented. You cannot fasttrack everyone. I was talking about ODIs and tests and I assumed that everyone else was as well. We don't really play many T20s (hardly 1 game a tour). Link to comment

World T20. last time Jaddu didn't play in IPL. Without knowing his form they picked him. It was a disaster. Link to comment
