Sri Lankan Cricket in terrible condition after 3 yrs.

Recommended Posts

Sri Lankan cricket will be in a completely awful state after 2-3 years from now, with Sanga, Mahela, Dilshan,Samarweera all retiring, maybe Dilshan will stay till the next world cup, and Murali has already retired. If we look at the future prospects, welegadera and kulasekra are only good pacers they have, while in the Spin dept., Mendis looks ordinary once the batsmen have got used to him and Herath and Randiv are better bowlers than him, The batting dept. will be extremely weak compared to the present one or maybe even weaker when Jayasurya played fr Sri Lanka. Your views guys??

Yes they are going to struggle but Sanga and Mahela shoudl stretch about 3-4 years more. In the last few years the second rung has not stepped up. Like of Chamara Silva etc. have been way dissapointing. Matthews has been the only class player to emerge (plus maybe Tharanga)

Big problem is that the big four batsmen (Sanga, Mahela, Samaraweera and Dilshan) are all 33-34, so will end up retiring at the same time. They need to get Chandimal in, but it will be hard, because they will either play Mathews when fit, or go for five bowlers as they did in this game. I'm not sure how good Chandimal's keeping is at this stage. The bowling is definitely weak.

They left their respective posts of Captain and Vice-captain because of the reason that they might not play the next world cup. At least Sanga said that.
