The truth is that BCCI gains or loses nothing by allowing the DRS

Recommended Posts

At the ICC’s recently concluded conference, the BCCI has once again showed they are the kings of international gamesmanship. Their moves, carefully plotted over the last few months, all culminated beautifully at the negotiating table in Hong Kong. Over the last few months, the BCCI has taken a stand on several moral and cricketing issues. They have objected to the DRS, disallowed Indian players from playing the SLPL, stood muted on the issue of Associate nations’ participation in the 2015 World Cup, and lobbied for a change in rules for selection of the ICC president. Let’s face the truth. The BCCI gains or loses nothing by allowing the DRS. They don’t really care if some Indian players get paid or not for playing the SLPL. A shorter, trimmer World Cup in 2015 is not their concern. It’s in the cricket schedule where their jackpot lay and they wanted their hands on it firm and square. In Hong Kong, they successfully traded their cards for a favourable FTP with a large-enough international window for the IPL. Though the BCCI are the ones who got what they wanted, everyone else walked out of the room feeling like winners. To top it all, the BCCI continues to hold some cards close to the chest to be eventually traded when the decision on ICC presidency is taken in October. So good are they at this that the BCCI should conduct classes at Harvard.
