How much power should ICC have?

Recommended Posts

A disturbingly growing trend (in my perspective) has been for ICC to come up with rules upon rules that seek to limit and curb what THEY believe they don't like. There is this sense of "Big Government" entitlement.. that cooks up laws and regulation just so that they can CONTROL... A batsman is not allowed to show any reasonable emotions if he is improperly given out.. Cricketing bodies are made to disassociate from national governmental politics (while theoretically it is a good philosophy.. but I don't think the ICC should be dictating this.. but rather let the bodies themselves sort it out and do what is best for them).. Players are not allowed to voice their dissatisfaction over shoddy umpiring. A lot of the cricketing members are socialist countries.. laws are framed to cater to the lowest common denominator, but is thrust upon everybody. The governments in such nations spread their tentacles into every aspect of societal functioning and CONTROL.... I feel the ICC is trying to do just the same to the game of cricket. Cricket is NOT a nation.. it is a sport.. it is entertainment.. and as such SHOULD have human aspects to it. . While there is sense in laying down ground rules for the game and trying to restrict any unreasonably erratic behavior unilaterally across the board.. .. there is no reason the ICC has to wield so much control over every aspect of the game. Nations should be allowed to dictate most of what happens in cricket and who plays with who etc.. bilaterally and between themselves. With India's rising contribution and economic influence in the game.. I can see the ICC becoming even more controlling and restrictive in the future.. steered by probably England and Australia mainly. Your thoughts?
