June 21, 2007 15:25 IST Caribbean legend Viv Richards's [Images] son Mali, an all-rounder, has joined the West Indies [Images] team as temporary cover for Thursday's warm-up match against England [Images] 'A'. Mali is one of the three cricketers who have been asked to join the visiting squad along with pacer Esaun Crandon and batsman Kirk Edwards. The pace duo of Andrew Richardson and Ruel Brathwaite had joined the squad on Wednesday. The West Indies is grappling with injury problems and pacer Corey Collymore has already been ruled out of the England 'A' match. Ravi Rampaul, another pacer, underwent a fitness test on Wednesday after which he was advised to skip the match to fully recover from the groin injury he sustained during a warm-up match. In all, the West Indies brought in seven players as cover for the solitary warm-up game against Worcester and the list also includes Jerome Taylor [Images] and Sylvester Joseph. The 23-year-old Mali is a middle-order batsman who doubles up as a seamer. Unlike his father, he is a left-hand batsman, who raised promise with a century for Antigua under-15 and then his 319 against Combined Virgin Islands. He also played for Gloucestershire second XI and Oxford UCCE with limited success

Wow this is good to know. I hope he does well and reminds us of Viv. I will now follow the ODI series quite closely. Another left hander by the way. What's with these top players' kids turning up into left handers? Sunil Gavaskar's son is a South paw, as is Tendulkar's and now Viv's is also a left hander. Good luck to him.

From what i know, this guy went to Durham ( or one other county) and played a whole lot of games for the second XI- scored 1 fifty in 14/15 innings, averaged in the teens and didnt even qualify for the first XI. Not worth his salt IMO.

Didn't get a bat or bowl yesterday as the Windies won a rain shortened to 24 overs a side match against the England Lions. Marlon Samuels took 3/16 to limit the Lions to 6/174. Dinesh Ramdin scored 73 from 52 balls and Runako Morton was 72 n.o. (51) as the tourists won with 5 balls to spare and by 7 wickets. Chris Broad spoiled his Harmy impression - 1/41 from 5 overs - by bowling no wides or no balls.
