Before tallk of what heads will roll in India's worst test performance in England since 1974 (actually it was even worrse than 1974 , though technically this side was "meant" to be better ), what should be obvious is that the tailenders were as bad in their batting as 1974 . Is the England team better than the one India faced in 1974 ? Well not really ! Let us just study the team that that beat the world one day champions . If it wasn't for Srilanka's poor performance in the second innings of the first test , this England team would have ended the test series against Srilanka as a draw ! One of the most balatantly obvious differences in the current world champions and the previous Indian world champions , is that the last time India came to visit England as world one day champions , they won the series against England 2-0! So why is there such a difference in the quality of these world champions , to the world champions of 1983? Well The 1983 world champions had gutsy allrounders which this team is sadly lacking . There is no bowler in this Indian team who can bat like Sharma Madan Lal, let alone Kapil Dev . Until the Indian players can have that kind of dedication to the game , they will struggle over seas . And lastly we come to Dhoni's captaincy on this tour . which to put mildly was meak , especially when he decided to ask an England batsman (who was out due to his own ignorance of cricket rules, by walking off whilst the ball was still in play ) ) to be reinstated ! Praveen Kumar's injury , forcing him to be left out of the final test again proved what a valuable contribution he had made to India's depleted bowling . Ishant Sharma and Sreesanth do not have KP's accuracy or penetration , even if they have more pace than him .
