zubinpepsi
CNN_IBN reports that they opted out... --- Sachin, Sourav, Rahul opt out of 20-20; Sehwag, Bhajji back CNN-IBN | Posted Jul 07, 2007 at 11:06 | Updated Jul 07, 2007 at 15:02 Text Size: S- / S+ Comments RSS Email Print Mumbai: The backbone of Indian batting for the past one decade - Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid have opted out of the inaugural Twenty20 cricket World Cup in South Africa, while Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan are included in the list of 30 probables. Sources had earlier confirmed to CNN-IBN that the trio had written a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) asking that they not be considered for the tournament to be held in South Africa in September. They had apparently told the BCCI that Twenty20 cricket is a young man's game and up and coming younger players should be given a chance. Even, Mohammad Kaif and Suresh Raina have also got the nod from the selection committee while Neeraj Patel (Gujarat), Karan Goel (Punjab), Abhishek Jhunjhunwala (Bengal), Cheteshwar Pujara (Saurashtra), Niranjan Behera (Orissa), Anirudha Srikkanth (Tamil Nadu) and Praveen Kumar (Uttar Pradesh) are some of the youngsters chosen in the list. The final squad for the championship is to be held in South Africa from September 11 to 24 would be selected on August 6 or 7, Cricket Board Secretary Niranjan Shah said. Now, the BCCI will have to find a new captain for this tournament and that battle is likely to come down to between Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Link to comment
Gambit
Not a bad decision. The big three should take it easy and get ready for Pak and Aus series. Link to comment

jf1gp_1
ok so finally someone took the right step. this team will do good, we want tonkers and plenty of them in 30 list. Plus young side means better fielding. All we need is an inform Sehwag and Pathan. Link to comment
ludhianvi
I think the trinity would have been very useful in South Africa even for 20/20. Would have given us some stability. Tendulkar is tailor made even for 20/20. So we will be going into the world cup with playing a single 20/20 match. Add to that, the youngsters that will be blooded for this WC. It might be too much pressure for them to handle Link to comment
