King Tendulkar
He is going to be our main spinner. I would rather he bats less and reserves his energy for the bowling. Then again given that our Kaptaan is a walking wicket in tests' date=' seems like he will be batting more often than not.[/quote'] OK. Lets telll Ashwin not to practice batting and dont even walk out to bat. Link to comment
ganeshran
Way too early to call him an all rounder. A bowler who can chip in with the bat for now. Link to comment
Lord
fantastic, whats good hes not slogging n has a decent technique.long tem prospect for sure. Link to comment
Sachinism
Bhaji has nothing to go on 'But he scores handy runs for us' point gone out the window Link to comment

Dravid_TheWall
It's important for Ashwin to bat well at number 8 or our tail will be long, which did worry me when Bhajji and PK were not chosen for this test series. (as in long term batting future for no8 and 9) I saw that he could bat from well early on. Has a good technique. Looks like another nail in Bhajji's coffin. Link to comment
The Outsider
LOL at OP! Couple of months back this guy was not even willing to consider anyone but Darty as the spinner and is now asking his replacement to be an all rounder. On topic, Ashwin is a much better bowler and batsman than Trashbhajan. Link to comment
Sidhoni
Yes, he can be a handy batsman lower down the order, he has been an opening batsman in the past as we all know. His technique is also right and he is not like other bowling all-rounders who just smash the ball to all parks(eg- Beast, PK) Link to comment

But PK can't play off side shots well :(( Link to comment

But no need to disrepect a loyal successful servant to Indian cricket. This topic is about Ashwin. Yet everyone is using it to bash Bhaji once again zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Link to comment
kabira
We would need our lower order to chip in Australia. Last time they did..so I have high hopes from Ashwin to score crucial 30s and 40s. Link to comment
gakgupta
reminds me of laxman in a way....not class but mannerisms and calmness......and i think his technique would be more suited to aussie conditions........has good potential to contribute with bat regularly but has to work on it.... Karan114
but but Bhajji is a roaring fighter' date='Ashwin is calm[/quote'] Yep, and we absolutely need his "fighting" average of 70 in Australian conditions, as Ravi Shastri keeps reminding us. No matter how much Bhajji's powerful backers like Shastri keep claiming he is vital to Indian cricket, Ashwin's performances are making things ever tougher for the "Make it Large" crew to force their boy back into the Indian team. BeautifulGame
Ashwin is somewhat similar to Bresnan in that he isnt good enough for no.7 but much better than a no.8. I dont think he is capable of batting at no.7 at the moment may be in future if he develops his batting ala Vettori then may be considered but not now. Even when he bats at no.7 for us Ranji he is more of a bowler who bats than a genuine all rounder. Link to comment

Even when he bats at no.7 for us Ranji he is more of a bowler who bats than a genuine all rounder. Genuine all-rounders are very rare, anyway. If he can do a decent job batting at 8 then he will strengthen the batting line-up a lot. Our other bowlers can hardly bat - even Bhajji for all his useful innings averaged just 18. Link to comment
Pagalpanti
He looks good but even if he develops into a good one I doubt we'd ever go with 5 bowlers in tests. In ODI's we're already playing Jadeja as the bowling allrounder. Link to comment
Hell Raiser
But the real question is can he bat when team is 50-5 in overcast conditions on a green and bouncy wicket in fourth innings when team is chasing against quality bowling line up.:--D Link to comment
JeffThommo_fan
Ashwin has a serious capability and most importantly, he is tall as well. We want some taller batsmen as well for the middle order Link to comment
