Duleep Trophy quarter-final will be played in Valsad Mumbai: Jan 13, 2012 The Duleep Trophy quarterfinal between East Zone and West Zone later this month has been shifted from Ahmedabad to Valsad, according to Cricket Board's Chief Administrative Officer Prof. Ratnakar Shetty. "The venue is now Valsad. The dates of the match remain the same," Shetty said here today. The four-day match commences on January 27. The two semifinals (South Zone v Central Zone and North Zone v Winner of QF) are to be held concurrently from February 4-7 at Chennai and Delhi respectively. The final is scheduled to be played at Indore from February 12-16. Pujara to lead West Zone in Duleep Trophy Posted on Jan 16, 2012 Mumbai: Saurashtra's prolific batsman Cheteshwar Pujara was chosen to lead West Zone in this year's Duleep Trophy championship commencing at Valsad on January 27. Mumbai's Ajinkya Rahane, now touring Australia as part of the Test squad, was named as Pujara's deputy by the zonal selectors, but is not available for the opening quarter-final encounter against East Zone, according to zonal panel convenor Nitin Dalal. "He is available to play from the second match (if West qualify)," said Dalal who also informed that young Saurashtra left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat, who has taken 26 wickets this season, has been ruled out of the competition because of an injury. "He feels pain from back to groin when he bowls," Dalal explained. Young medium pacer Balwinder Singh Sandhu (Jr.) has found a place in the squad following his good show for Mumbai in his opening first class season by taking five wickets in an innings on debut against Punjab and ending the campaign with a ten-wicket haul against Tamil Nadu in the semi-final. West would meet East in the first match of the five-team competition and the winners of the tie would play against North at Delhi from February 4-7. The other semi-final pitting South against Central will be held at Chennai on same dates. The final is to be held at Indore from February 12-16. West Zone squad: Cheteshwar Pujara (Capt., Saurashtra), Ajinkya Rahane (V-Capt., Mumbai), Kaustubh Pawar, Harshad Khadiwale (Maharashtra), Suryakumar Yadav (Mumbai), Abhisekh Nayar (Mumbai), Ankit Bawane (Maharashtra), Ambati Rayudu (Baroda), Rohit Motwani (Maharashtra), Akshay Darekar (Maharashtra), Dhawal Kulkarni (Mumbai), Ishwar Chaudhary (Gujarat), Balwinder Sandhu Jr. (Mumbai), Kamlesh Makwana (Saurashtra), Samad Fallah (Maharashtra). Manager: Rajendra Shah (Saurashtra); Coach: Sulakshan Kulkarni (Mumbai). ------------------------------------------------------ So finally Wasim Jaffer is dropped. Where on earth is Munaf? What is his situation? And Yusuf Pathan is also dumped for good, it seems! Can't see the name of any shining seamer or spinner here. Rkt, can you help here?

Ishwar Chaudhury is decent. Valsad is a red soil track, and has plenty of bounce. Might backfire on West, because Dinda + Shami Ahmed might be quite a handful. The West batting is top notch though - Pujara + Rahane + Abhishek Nayar + Rayudu + Suryakumar Yadav. Anyone knows what the East Zone team is? The batting would be ****all anyway, and even Manoj Tiwari is gonna be in Australia.

I hope they pick Abu Nechim for East Zone squad. Dinda, Nechim and Shami would be a very good pace attack on a sporting track.
A 140+ attack on a bouncy pitch that will also offer a fair amount of swing. This will be the contest to look forward to. I wonder what the East Zone batting will be - Bengal batting sucks and the top batsmen of the other states are usually top team-rejects.

This team will lose by an innings. Shahbaz Nadeem is the only spinner. Where did you get the team from? Sabby, you can't see them bowl anyway because West Zone will knock them out of the stadium.

Arre I said the likely squad , based on how the players from EZ have performed this season. I realised that the squad doesn't have anyone from Tripura. Most probably they will accommodate some bowler there.
