The Lion's Den "The KINGS XI PUNJAB thread"

Recommended Posts

First build some history then start talking about history...
Better than Pwnjab who built no history at all in 4 given opportunities. Sorry. Built the history of being sore losers. :giggle:

Plenty of warriors Mishraji' date=' plenty. Have not even touched the Baji Raos yet.[/quote'] OOOh... When reading history, once Shivaji Maharaj was done we used to leave Sahu's Peshwas, Rao's as optional.. Very rarely questions were asked on them rulers.. :--D

A Punjabi Sardar and a Bengali Babu were talking about their State's patriotic history during the freedom struggle. The debate heated up and both ended up claiming that their state had the maximum number of freedom fighters. They finally agreed on a method to find which of the states had more freedom fighters. Each person would say the name of a freedom fighter from his state and pull one hair out of his opponents head. Both of them began earnestly. "Bhagat Singh" said the Sardar and pulled one hair from the Bengali. "Netaji" said the Bengali and did the same. They continued like this for some time, but soon exhausted all known freedom fighters. The Bengali, however, was very clever. He used Sardar's ignorance and reeled off a lot of imaginary names. The Punjabi was stuck. He did not know any more Punjabi freedom fighter's name. He thought deeply for a moment, jumped on the Bengali's head and pulled all his hair out shouting - "JallianWala Bagh".

^One word - Shivaji
I honestly have no idea, who Shivaji is? Heard this name here and there. That might have something to do with, that we have not been taught about him in schools and colleges. CBSE board and PU don't give any importance to Shivaji. And so it should be. Coz if I ask about Maharaja Ranjit Singh from Punjab, you wouldn't be knowing about him. But, he was a historical legend. So, we have been taught about Maharaja Ranjit Singh not Shivaji.

Plenty of warriors Mishraji' date=' plenty. Have not even touched the Baji Raos yet.[/quote'] Thats why I said, no point bringing on the new names from the history. You will keep bringing names like Shivaji, Baji Bujis and we will keep bringing names like Maharaja Ranjit Singh or Guru Gobind Singh. Koi fayda nahin. Neither do we know anything about Shivaji or Baji Bujis nor do you know about Ranjit Singh or Guru Gobind Singh.. So stop calling names from the history. Just talk about recent past.

Yar, even I studied a lots of history in my school days. And if you'd have asked me in my school days about anyone, I'd have definitely told you. But, now I just remember few main things from history which any common man would know. Coz history has never been my interest. We have been taught about Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Guru Gobind Singh in our school days. I know about some of the highlights of their great careers. But, I am not a historian to go deep into their work.

Gilchrist: The buck stops with me Kings XI Punjab coach-cum-captain Adam Gilchrist said it is all about shouldering responsibilities and the "buck would stop with him" as he is looking to inspire his side for a path breaking season five. In this one-year, his association with cricket is limited to hitting a few balls from his close friend Geoff Marsh or coaching his 10-year-old son Harry. In fact, the last time he played in a competitive match was in IPL IV in 2011 but the highly successful Australian wicketkeeper and explosive opener is not short on confidence. "I'm feeling fresh and full of energy. It's fantastic to be back," Gilchrist said, all geared up for their opener against Rajasthan Royals on Friday. Gilchrist said he is enjoying his dual role which he describes as a task to coordinate the players with his highly efficient support staff. "I would not have taken this job (coach), if I was not enjoying it. I'm more than happy and feeling positive about it. It's about taking responsibility and I know the buck stops with me." Gilchrist, who was part of the invincible Aussies that won hat-trick of World Cups from 1999-2007, retired from international cricket in 2008 but it's the annual Indian T20 extravaganza that brings balance to his life. "These days, I'm busy with my business venture of Indian sandalwood besides being the ambassador of a university. Also I'm busy with Harry who is excited about his U-11 cricket," he said. "I don't need something extra to motivate myself. I do boxing training everyday and once in a while hit a few balls from my very good friend Geoff Marsh ... In such a lifestyle, IPL gives the nice balance. I'm fortunate to be part of this tournament." Gilchrist praised his support staff which includes two more Aussies in Joe Dawes, the current Indian bowling coach, and former Australian fielding consultant Mike Young as the Kings fielding coach, besides former wicketkeeper Vikram Rathour. "Young is one of the great motivators and has very high standards. Also the Indian bowling coach Dawes and Rathour have great knowledge of the game. As long as you have a good support staff, the task becomes easier for me in the middle." Asked whether the side would be over dependent on him and Shaun Marsh, Gilchrist said: "We are relatively unknown side but there are some exciting talents like James Faulkner to watch out for. "We are looking to make the semifinal first, from then on anything is possible in this format. Hope we get off to a positive start," he added. He further hoped that the allrounders such as new recruit Azhar Mahmood, the only Pakistani player in this IPL, contribute to the side. The biggest challenge, he said, would come from two-time defending champions Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. "They have got the money. The three teams with the biggest budget ... They look the best side on paper but in T20 any team can win on a given day," he said.

Well, this being the Lion's den and all, things are gonna be a bit tougher. You can open the first Dharmashala match in exchange for Mishra opening the April 6th Game. If the Lions win the 1st Dharmashala match, you get the second Dharmasala match. Otherwise, I will open the 2nd thread. Deal? Obviously, i have to look out for the team fellas. Team first before anything else. Thread opening will be performance based.
