saneindian
Ashwin has not impressed me so far in longer version but next home season is important for him. Bowled like a beast in his debut series vs WI at home. Next 10 home tests could see him enhance his reputation massively, especially if we finally decide not to welcome visiting sides with flat pattas. Must admit though that his fitness is a massive concern right now. Needs to cut down on the flab Link to comment

Ojha has been our best spinner in home conditions in recent times. He is always economical and his figures were not much worse than Ashwin against the Windies. The problem with Ojha is that he can't field and is probably the worst batsman we have in the national set-up. Link to comment

He is unlucky that he is playing in this era of fitness before skill. This guy should be your main spinner in the side. How about Sir Ravendra Jadeja making the team at #7 and extra spin option against the team he beat 5-0 in ODIs last winter. Link to comment

England are a far better test team than an ODI side. They have not done too badly in their last 2 test tours of India. It would be a risk to start with Jadeja. Also Dhoni at 6 in tests is probably not the best idea. Link to comment
jairamesh
Selections for India v England Series 2012 Time for some serious stuff, the CLT20 can't get over quick enough :wall: So just about 6 weeks to go before 1st Test at Motera. England have already announced their squad for India. I am excited to see who these new selectors go for. There has been plenty of cricket going on last few weeks in India and abroad and good few weeks left before selectors decide. But we can all speculate. Plenty of opportunities in the headaches that currently present themselves. On top of my head: -Dhoni's captaincy -Gambhir & Sehwag combo -Musical chairs with number 6 slot continues -Bhajji, Raina, Yuvi, Dinda, Chawla all to need keep out of selectors' thoughts:pray: -What to make of Robin Bist, Murli Vijay, Mandeep Singh, Rayudu, Saha, Mukund, Shami, Ishant My starting XI for 1st Test: Sehwag, Rahane, Pujara, Tendu, Kohli (capt), Rayudu, Dhoni, Ashwin, Ojha, Yadav, Zaheer -Time to move on from Dhoni era -If Sehwag fails courtesy of the usual then replace him with Mukund or ask Pujara to open and bring in one of Bist or Mandeep. -Could do with a batting all-rounder, preferably a spin option. -On flat Motera wicket, maybe drop a specialist batsman and bring in another bowler. indiaregulator
-On flat Motera wicket, maybe drop a specialist batsman and bring in another bowler. Can't afford to do that. 5 batsman, 2 of whom are extremely inexperienced + Dhoni is risky against England's bowling. Broad showed what he could do on dead wickets in the UAE and Finn...well....He can seam the ball both ways at 95MPH.... Link to comment
SLICKR392
/\ I would go with 3 specialist spinner considering the pitch and the team i.e. England. Link to comment
MCcricket
Time to bring in Saha who is a fantastic keeper and bat, new captain needed, Murali Vijay deserves a long run,Irfan the senior bowler with Shami given a chance. My squad Sachin Sehwag Gambhir Pujara Rahane Kohli Rohit Saha Yuvraj Irfan Shami Ashwin Ojha Aaron Rahul Zak Aaron , Ishant , Yuvraj , Shami ,Sehwag can be switched depending on fitness and form Link to comment
sreej
Yuvraj shouldn't be in the Test squad unless he improves his fitness. Link to comment
vvvslaxman
i would even retain Viru. Gambhir no no. He has developed serious technical problems. Now he has lot of confidence issues as well. it is suicidal to walk into a critical series with two out of form openers. Rahane is a must. Not sure if he should open. I need an additional spinner in the squad. Link to comment

jairamesh
Rohit question will be a interesting. His record certainly suggests he suited for the longer form. And his off-spin can be very handy. But the form and confidence he has been in the last two months at International level does not bode well for facing a strong Test team. In his India A tour to West Indies in July he played only one innings of substance out of 8 innings, whilst failing miserable in the other 7. Selectors missed a trick not sending Rohit to NZ. He did play one superb innings in WI, but others like Rahane, Mukund, Dhawan did not play even one innings of that kind. Those were some tough pitches to bat on and the one innings he played was top class. bar Pujara who had 2-3 50s, it was only Rohit and to some extent Saha who had played any innings of substance there.
