ICC World T20, 2012 SriLanka

For the sake of Indian cricket and going by the record I hope we loose and that would be the last straw, Dhoni, Fletcher, Cheeka fired , what a mess, that have turned a good ranked INDIAN team to an embarrassment. India does have enough firepower in the subcontinent and can very well win , Raina, Gambhir, Sehwag, Rahane, Rohit, Irfan, Kohli, Dhoni, Zak, Umesh, Aaron if fit,Awana, Shami, Ashwin, Rahul,Mandeep SHOULD BE OUR SQUAD. Last year was horrible and what drives the BCCI is revenue and they realize that public interest and money coming in as a result is affected, I hope we don't see the same failures being pushed in the team by Cheeka and Dhoni, PK, VK, Mithun.

According to the PCB release that announced the squad, Hafeez has been named captain 'till the end of 2012'. T20 doesn't need skill, intelligence: Ranatunga http://www.wisdenindia.com/t20-doesnt-need-skill-intelligence-ranatunga

I always felt that with T20, it is all about the power rather than the talent and the mind controlling the game. ItÃÔ entertainment. I wonÃÕ say stop T20, but priority has to be given to Test cricket and one-day cricket. In T20, you have to take instant decisions and even if you lose, people will say thatÃÔ the way it goes. You donÃÕ need intelligence for T20, you donÃÕ need talent for T20. You donÃÕ need skills for T20. You need only power and a strong head. I am very scared that if we implement this at the junior level, we will lose proper cricket. India might have won a World T20, Pakistan might have won a World T20, but give a little time and ultimately, T20 will be ruled by those with power rather than those with skill. ThatÃÔ my issue with it. I personally feel that Under-15s should not play T20. At the Under-19 level, because of the World Cups, we might have to bring in T20 but we should know where to draw the line. You should not sacrifice Test cricket. We Asians like quick results. We prefer to go to a movie with music and dancing rather than watch a classic. Twenty20 is like that. A couple of years back, I went to an Under-12 schools championship. I met this kid who was about eight, and I asked him what his favourite shot was. Á¶ncle, Dilscoop? was the answer. I got so angry, I told him that is not a cricket shot. He said, Áºou donÃÕ know uncle, Dilshan plays that shot? I told the father, donÃÕ allow him to watch any of the short versions. Get videos of Sunil Gavaskar batting, David Gower batting, Geoff Boycott batting. We should understand these are kids, they are not mature enough. When it is nice and different, they tend to follow those things. We need to understand that, we need to educate them. Apart from that, I have no issues with T20 cricket.
He has a point but ...........
Yes, I miss cricket but whenever I get the opportunity, I watch a little bit. I donÃÕ go to the ground but if I go to someoneÃÔ house for lunch during my political day and if a match is on, I will take my plate and sit in front of the TV for at least half an hour.

How contradictory? Every form of cricket needs a certain skill set without which once cannot be successful.

:finger: :finger: :finger: to all who says T20 doesnt need skill or intelligence IMO, T20 is the format in which you need to be the most intelligent because its just not about bowling wicket to wicket or playing conventional shot. A batsman need to be intelligent enough to understand what the bowler is gonna bowl next and the bowler needs to be intelligent to as to know what will be the best ball for the situation. And as a captain you need to be very smart when it comes to field placing and rotating bowlers. Thats the difference between MSD and Baldywag(see IPL for reference). And as for skill, a lot of skill is needed to bowl a yorker, or play a shot that gets the ball over fine leg, between short third man and point.....Not to mention conventional cricket shots are also played regularly

Nice theory :giggle:. BCCI may keep a IQ record for all participants in secret and suggest francishises to bid according to this intelligence factor. But one problem, What if Jaddu really scored more than Saurav?!!

My playing XI... Sehwag Gambhir Kohli Mandeep (in case Yuvi doesn't make it) Raina MSD Rohit/Uthappa (someone who can score quickly at the death) Irfan Ashwin Rahul Any pacer (doesn't really matter who it is) Other players in the squad Rohit/Uthappa (whoever doesn't play in the XI with Uthappa as a reserve wk) Yuvi/Mandeep (one of the two in case Yuvi makes it) One pacer (doesn't matter who it is)

You can develop quite a few skills in T20. Bowling: excellent practice for bowling tight overs, especially for death overs. Fielding: crucial in T20, where runs are more costly than any other format. The Indian fielders coming through the IPL are much, much better than their predecessors. Batting: Useless for tests. Good practice for openers to keep a high run-rate, and also good practice for maximizing runs in the death overs.

India announces the squad for T20 WC, 2012

Yuvraj, Harbhajan named in T20 squad ESPNcricinfo staff August 10, 2012 India batsman Yuvraj Singh has been named in India's T20 squad for the home series against New Zealand and the ICC World Twenty20 next month in Sri Lanka, marking a return to cricket after battling with cancer. VVS Laxman, Ishant Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Piyush Chawla and Ajinkya Rahane have been included for the home Tests against New Zealand later this month. Rohit Sharma has been left out of the Test squad after a lean period with the bat. Yuvraj, who last played for India during the home Tests against West Indies, was passed fit when the selection committee met in Mumbai to pick the respective squads. During his recovery from cancer, Yuvraj said last month that Twenty20 would be ideal format to mark his return to competitive cricket. However, he was picked despite lacking in match practice. The Twenty20 squad had a few surprises, most notably the recall of the legspinner Chawla (in both squads), offspinner Harbhajan Singh and the seamer L Balaji. Chawla last played for India during the 2011 World Cup, and his previous Test goes back a further three years. Balaji, who suffered career-threatening injuries through the previous decade, last played for India in 2009. What may have boosted his selection was a successful IPL 2012, during which he played a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders' title win. India's squads T20 squad: MS Dhoni (capt/wk), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary, Irfan Pathan, R Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, L Balaji, Piyush Chawla, Harbhajan Singh, Ashok Dinda

The selectors are useless, Yuvraj hasn't played any competitive cricket and how do we know if he is ready for big time cricket, Dinda :cantstop: in the squad, Chawla , Harbhajan and Raina in test's on what basis. These clowns are hurting Indian cricket badly for the last few years.
