Pep Guardiola to leave Barcelona at end of season

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola will leave at the end of this season after deciding not to extend his contract, according to various reports. Guardiola informed club president Sandro Rosell of his decision yesterday and will speak to his players this morning. Barca will issue a statement announcing the coach's decision imminently. Training was due to start at 11am local time (0900 GMT) at the club's facilities on the outskirts of the Catalan capital. Speculation about Guardiola's future heightened after Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League by Chelsea 3-2 on aggregate in their semi-final on Tuesday. That followed a 2-1 home loss to arch rivals Real Madrid on Saturday meaning they are likely to miss out on a fourth successive La Liga title. The 41-year-old former Barca and Spain midfielder has enjoyed a hugely successful stint with the Catalan club winning 13 trophies in four seasons, whilst playing a passing style of football that has been widely acclaimed as the best in the world. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/pep-guardiola-to-leave-barcelona-at-end-of-season-7684291.html

because he is not your typical mercenary football bloke. he has a bit of depth to him, and more than money, he is interested in creating and leaving a legacy where ever he goes. and we are the best club, in the best city, in the best league in the world.

Bielsa the now Bilbao coach is likely successor. Pep is a huge fan of Bielsa- inspired by him in fact- and he has done a very good job with Bilbao this year which will serve him well. Sorting the defence out is first priority whoever next coach is

I just read that the current Asst will take over.. hmm..at least Pep had experience at the highest level as a player..hope this guy does well Will be interesting to see how Pep fares elsewhere, given he was a Barca man through and through, the system was one he knew all too well. How will he fare outside his comfort zone, will he be more tactically flexible...
