10 people shot dead at premiere of new Batman film in Denver A masked gunman has shot dead 10 people and wounded more than 30 others at a Batman film premiere in the US, reports claim. Picture-4_2282422b.jpg Witnesses saw people running and screaming from the Century Aurora 16 Movie Theater in a mall in the suburb of Aurora, Denver, Colorado. The gun man reportedly opened fire after 30 minutes of the showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" and also set off a smoke or tear gas bomb. Brenda Stuart, from 850 KOA Radio, said: "This started with a midnight showing of the new Dark Knight movie and the theatres were packed that were showing this movie. "People inside tell us they thought it was part of the movie. They heard what they thought were firecrackers, loud bangs and all of a sudden they saw the bullets flying. "Police officers are carting the injured to the hospital in their own cars, not waiting for the ambulances." A makeshift hospital was set up at the mall to treat those wounded in the attack. Police closed off surrounding parking lots as sniffer dogs were brought in to search for a suspected explosive device.

The alleged shooter, James Holmes (born December 13, 1987), is in police custody. He was wearing a bullet-resistant vest and gas mask at the time of the shooting. He was found next to his car in the theater parking lot with a rifle and handgun, and he did not resist arrest. Once apprehended, the suspect told authorities about explosives in his residence in North Aurora. Aurora police chief Dan Oates said that police were treating the shooter's home, five miles from the scene of the crime, as a site where explosives might be present. ABC spoke with a woman who identified herself as Holmes' mother, who told them she had not yet been contacted by the authorities, but expressed concern that her son was involved and said "you have the right person".

Why are guns legal in USA? No wonder so many shootings when any person who is ef ed up can get their hands on Assualt rifles etc easily. Follow example of other countries like Aus or UK and ban guns! It would largely reduce these incidents in long term.

The youngest victim was believed to be a four-month old infant who was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. At least six victims were rushed to the Children’s Hospital in Aurora, including a 6-year-old with a bullet wound.

New York City Police Commissiner Raymond W. Kelly said the suspect in the shootings had red-painted hair that resembled the character “The Joker” from the Batman comics and movies.
NYPD Cmsr Kelly says CO suspect Holmes had "hair painted red, he said he was The Joker." Armed w/shotgun, AK47, 9mm, knife.

Final Tweets from #TheaterShooting Victim

"Jessica and Brent were seated in the middle portion of the theatre when a device was thrown into the theatre that produced a “hissing” sound. The theatre than began to fill with smoke which is when patrons began to move from their seats. At that time, shots were fired. Brent and Jessica immediately dropped to a prone position for cover. Jessica advised multiple times for someone to call 911, which Brent immediately attempted to do. Brent then heard Jessica scream and noticed that she was struck by a round in the leg. Brent, began holding pressure on the wound and attempted to calm Jessica. It was at this time that Brent took a round to his lower extremities. While still administering first aid, Brent noticed that Jessica was no longer screaming. He advised that he looked over to Jessica and saw what appeared to be an entry wound to her head. He further stated that Jessica presented with agonal respirations. Brent then took what may have been his only chance to escape the line of fire and exited the structure where he then contacted my mother. The veracity of any other statements not issued by myself or Peter Burns should be questioned."

You're advocating Communism :beee: If everyone in the theater carried a gun, the shooter would be too scared to shoot any of them. Besides, its Eric Holder's fault.
