sudheer.b
Can England stay at no.1 till Test Championship starts in 2013? I can't say YES because ENGLAND team is champion in ENGLAND only. England team don't have winning ability in sub continent, in AUS,NZ and in South Africa. So England is home champions only. India will get back their no.1 in very short period. SriLanka may compete with India for that first spot before Test Championship. Link to comment
Cricketics
England will have hard time playing against pakistan in Abu Dhabi. Pitches will produce 250-300 runs per innings and Ajmal and other spinners from pak might eat them sometimes. Then they are playing against Sri Lanka and India. That would be real test for them. Two tough places where they haven't really had much success. I think they are bound to lose no. 1 in less than an year. may be in next 6 months. All depends how India plays in next 7-8 months. If we win in Aus and do well in other series, we shall go no. 1, if we lose Aus or Draw there, most likely South Africa will go no. 1, we remain on 2, and Australia England would fighting for no. 3. And if after beating Aus in Aus they are still "home champions only" as you put it , What does that say about us ? when we have never won in Aus or SA ? Link to comment

Cricketics
Around this same time next year, we would have taken over again or perhaps south africans. Link to comment
Pak_Fan_4_Eva
Depends to be seen. Winning at home isn't such a big deal. Although they conquered the Ashes but their toughest test will be South Africa and the Subcontinent. They are no.1 as long as they win in the above mentioned places. Link to comment

Wrong, they are no1 as long as they maintain a points average above that of other teams Link to comment
