Cricketics 6,721 Report post Posted January 22, 2013 Ferrer wins. CLASS. ABSOLUTE CLASS. 2 SETS DOWN AND WINS IN 5. WELL DONE FERRER AND COMMISERATIONS TO ALMAGRO. So hope he goes all the way to the finals. He works so hard.
Raghav_12 15 Report post Posted January 22, 2013 Ferrer wins. CLASS. ABSOLUTE CLASS. 2 SETS DOWN AND WINS IN 5. WELL DONE FERRER AND COMMISERATIONS TO ALMAGRO. So hope he goes all the way to the finals. He works so hard. Ferrer has been just outside the elite league for so long. For him it has been so near, yet so far more than anyone else. In grand slams, he consistently keeps progressing until he runs into one of top 4. Good to see him reaching SF here, reward for hard work that he puts in. Though I am surprised with the result of this match as when I left match it was third set and Almagro was in absolute control.

His is same case as kind of Andy Murray, it's just that he has hasn't had as much success as Murray in terms of grandslams. I would still say Ferrer is more consistent then Andy Murray because of his longevity just that he hasn't been able to break into the finals. He has it in him though. Whenever you ask Federer, he always mentions "don't forget guys like Ferrer and Tipsarevic" He regards these guys as mentally tough who keep fighting till 5th set. Tennis is at it's peak and we are lucky to be in this era.
Sooda 257 Report post Posted January 22, 2013 Ferrer is still a bit behind the top 4 in terms of quality but yes gotta hand it to him the guys is a bulldog, works like a horse and deserves everything that comes his way in terms of success. Feel for Almagro though. This is the 3rd match where he has lost to ferrer from match point. Must have played on his mind. Interestingly by the 4th round there were 4 proponents of the one handed backhand, and many had predicted its demise, apart from Almagro there was Stan Wawrinka, Federer of course and Gasquet. bones 20 Report post Posted January 22, 2013 If Ferrer plays his best and Djokovic plays his best, Djokovic wins in 4 sets. With Ferrer having played a 5 setter and Djokovic coasting to an easy win vs Berdych, fitness won't be an issue either. Murray vs Chardy, Murray is clear favourite, but I really like the look of Chardy, he's got a big serve and can play all the shots. I think Murray will ben taken to the 5th set in this match. Tsonga vs Federer, with Federer in the form he is in, I think he'll get over the line in this one. Great tournament so far.

Chalks 39 Report post Posted January 23, 2013 Serena OUT, beaten by her protege Sloane Stephens in three sets. That turns the women's tournament right on its head. B-> Serena appeared to aggravate a back injury during the second set, but take nothing away from Stephens.
Cricketics 6,721 Report post Posted January 23, 2013 Wow. SImply Amazing. Yesterdya between all the games, you could here commentators mentioning how Sloane is gaining confidence by practicing and being on tours with Serena and Venus. Amazing how she ended up defeating her. Well done.

Cricketics 6,721 Report post Posted January 23, 2013 I was hoping for a final bertween Serena and Sharapova. Would have been good Tennis. :-( Sharapova is smoking all her opponents. I mean so was Serena uptil Sloane happend today. If Azarenka beat Sloane, I beleive Sharapova will have better chance. If Sloane beats Vika Azarenka, then I believe Sloane is in top form and will clean sweep even Maria. I think Sharapova to regain Australian open here. Even if that didn't make significant difference, I would doubt Sloane would challenge Sharapova the way Serena would have. In fact a completely fit Serena plays ar different level than any of the women on circuit. I may be opening up a long debate here, but I believe that Serena is best ever women tennis player. Cricketics 6,721 Report post Posted January 23, 2013 It's relaly hard to imagine who will win this Australian Open. Federer, well you can never rule him out. Murray is in the form of his life. Smoking all opponents in straight sets as he enters semis to meet Federer. I think Murray would for lot of people might start as favorite as he goes in with out losing a set in his last game, but then people shouldn't forget that even though Federer had to work really hard to win his q/f against Tsonga, Tsonga was in red hot form and was a pretty tough opponent. On other side of draw, Djokovic is playing like a horse. Freakin too hard to beat. The longer the game gets, the better he starts responding. Ferrer would like to change the history. He can match. One word for Ferrer "Believe" This guy can do it.
Sooda 257 Report post Posted January 23, 2013 Likely be a Murray Novak final and that'd be impossible to call... Murray might have too much for Fed over five sets - as much as Id love Fed to win that-and Novak too much quality for ferrer

bones 20 Report post Posted January 25, 2013 Federer is 31, age and fatigue showed in the final set. He just played a 5 setter 2 nights ago. What this means is we've got a final between the top 2 players in the world despite what the rankings say. However it's the most boring match up of the top 4. Murray and Djokovic tend to neutralise each other a lot. Hoping for a Nole win, hope he doesn't mess up like he did in the US Open.
Cricketics 6,721 Report post Posted January 25, 2013 Brilliant from both guys to put on a show here. 5 setter is all what you need between these guys and one can't ask for better than this. WELL DONE Murray. Clearly the better player. One can't predict the final. Anyone can win this.

WELL DONE Murray. Clearly the better player. One can't predict the final. Anyone can win this. Considering the dazzling display that Nole put a night ago against Ferror, I'll not risk even my single penny against him. Personally I would like Murray to win, but that is not going to happen. Djoko is in sublime form and only a fit Nadal could have stopped him. Murray took rather long time to put away an erratic and below par Federer. Djoko will win this so easily that he'll not even tear apart his t after match.

Nole looked unstoppable but lost to Andy. As Nole looks to be in great touch, Andy seems to be in the form of his life. Great tennis since Olympics. Unstoppable. Sooda 257 Report post Posted January 25, 2013 Fed does not have the legs in the best of 5 matches anymore to keep up with Nole and Murray, Rafa who are amongst the fittest sportspeople in the world. Theyre far too physical these matches on the hards especially. On grass where points are shorter youd still give him a chance.

Cricketics 6,721 Report post Posted January 26, 2013 The reason why people werent Azarenka much was because she took medical time out when she got broken in 2nd set against Sloane Stephens in semis. Just when she wsa getting in the game she took 15 min medical time out and came back to continue the game. She was asked later why she took the break. She said "I almost pulled a choke of the tournament there. And I felt something near the kneck" Basically she didn't have any answer. She wanted to take away the momentum from Sloane.
