Trichromatic
Why should have Sehwag stayed and Gambhir gone ? See their ODI records for the last year. Both should have gone or Sehwag. Because Sehwag is better than Gambhir in both formats of game? Link to comment
saneindian
Hope Pujara's knee problems do not result in a ODI career similar to VVS'. Shorter formats could expose such weaknesses. Link to comment
Lord
This is for first 3 ODIs. I am hoping Gambhir would be dropped after that. lol.keep hoping(read dreaming) Link to comment
Cevno
backup' date='though I'd have Abdulla or Jalaj[/quote'] Why have a backup spinner though ? Makes more sense for balance to have another batsman or seamer. Right now, there's only 1 spare batsman unless you consider Jadeja. If 2 Spinners get injured then call up someone. What's the probability anyway ? Link to comment
The Realist
LOL at the "new" squad. Same old endlessly recycled and same old passangers stay on. LOL at the supposed "transition" New panel of selectors = Link to comment
SLICKR392
Okay then. Compare the two. Currently' date=' Dhoni in Tests > Gambhir in ODIs.[/quote'] I am not rooting for him here. He should be dropped but there is a difference between an opener and a player down the order. Link to comment

Cevno
Gambhir has feasted on mighty SL.else hes been poor.atleast Sehwag doesnt waste balls Gambhir did well in Srilanka and Australia. And not on bata wickets. And SL have a equald ODI attack than the one England are bringiing. Sehwag's attitude sucks, Sehwag was never a great ODI player and Sehwag's form is poor too for 12 months. Sehwag doesn't waste balls but we aren't playing a T20 or on 400 roads. Both should have been dropped or Sehwag. Dropping GG and not VS makes no sense. Link to comment

Number
Can't believe people are calling for Sehwag. Liability in the field who gives 10 extra runs whereas his replacements will at least save a few. And I have more faith in Gambhir than Sehwag to comeback in form. Link to comment

jairamesh
Selectors would have thought this ODI series would have been ideal time to experiment with youngsters/new players, e.g. Kedhar, Bist, Mandeep, Ishank Pandey, Sandeep, hell maybe even Rasool. South Africa have just announced 4 uncapped players for their ODI vs NZ. Not sure if selectors are powerless or Dhoni's ego to prove his ability to win is clouding his judgment to give new players opportunity over recurring failures. Link to comment

When was Gambhir a great ODI player? Gambhir's recent form has been worse than Sehwag's. Yes, we aren't playing T20, but if a player is scoring more runs without wasting deliveries, then I guess you would prefer him only. Link to comment
Trichromatic
LOL. Not in ODI's and not anymore since he came back after WC. Not saying that he is a very good ODI player, but that doesn't make Gambhir better than him. Link to comment

Among the top 3 for India. Sehwag averages 20. lol. Sehwag is a liability on the field too. Laughs after dropping catches and what not. Link to comment
Number
Not saying that he is a very good ODI player' date=' but that doesn't make Gambhir better than him.[/quote'] Gambhir is better than Sehwag in ODIs. Now you will come with your stats filter which is pointless. Link to comment

Gambhir struggles against any good bowling line up especially with good pacers. I have faith in him to score a ton against Lankans though. If India had next series with SL, then I would certainly prefer him over any other batsman. Link to comment
