I don't understand, steroids are steroids whether used to enhance performance or to relieve pain. How can players receive these steroids right before the game?? I'm not talking about Flintoff, but just reading that article in cricinfo I realized how this has been happening for such a long time!!!

Steroids are of different types. If we have a doc on the forum he/she can explain better but there are some that are regulary used to treat all kinds of ailments. My wife had to go through extensive steroid treatment for her sinuses. Obviously they are not the same as performance enhancement drugs
