Indian camp not happy with umpiring

Why not a neutral third umpire? BOBILLI VIJAY KUMAR| DURBAN, Dec 30: The Indian camp is not too happy with the way the entire match has been handled. According to a senior official, the umpires in the middle haven't really handled the issue of bad light consistently at all. "When we batted today (Saturday) in the morning session, the light wasn't good at all. It was certainly worse than how it was over the last four days in the evenings," he said. "If it was unfit for play then how can they call for play now," he asked. India lost two crucial wickets in those few early minutes. The conditions were overcast and the light was certainly weak at that stage. The official was also quite upset with the presence of a home umpire for four days in such a crucial Test. "If the neutral umpire is unwell or can't stand in the middle due to health reasons, you can't have a local one. It's not about the integrity of an official at all; it's just that he might feel more pressure than a neutral one," he thundered. Umpire Mark Benson had to be hospitalised early on the second morning. Since then Ian Howell, a South African who was originally the third umpire, stepped into his shoes. There weren't too many controversial or upsetting decisions really from him. But the Indian official felt that he gave Shaun Pollock the benefit of doubt on Friday evening which emphatically turned the game South Africa's way. He wondered why the ICC can't have three neutral umpires when it is already spending so much to have so many other officials around. Cheerful mood The mood in the Indian camp in the morning was upbeat and noisy. As dark clouds hung low over the stadium, threatening to open up any time, it must have felt that the match had been saved. Most of the players were happily chatting away and clearly waiting for the game to be called off. In fact, a bunch of them was even playing an improvised version of cricket inside the dressing room. Sreesanth was also seen reading a comic book. In one corner, however, two men seemed to be very, very busy: Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly. The duo was engaged in intense conversation for more than 45 minutes. From a distance, it looked like they were analysing something on the laptop computer. It was only when the weather started clearing up that a little anxiety returned in the dressing room. Dravid promptly rushed to the window when he saw umpire Asad Rauf walking back after another inspection. He looked up at the sky with a blank look when he was told that the game would resume shortly. A little while later, Wasim Akram had another chat with VRV Singh. As he was returning, he saw Ganguly and asked him to come down. They then had a long chat, and seemed to be enjoying themselves. New year's eve The Indian team is planning to bring in the New Year at an informal but quiet party in an Indian restaurant in Cape Town. It is scheduled to leave for the beautiful city early on Sunday morning and relax through the day in preparation for the evening.

Re: Indian camp not happy with umpiring We may say SA played better,Nitini was great and all that...but here's the thing-you are playing the second best test side in the world on their homground, get 10+ decisions against you, made to play in poor light...and the match still ended in the last session on the 5th day....we batted badly but take out those decisons and SA didnt play better either...our bowling was as good as theirs if not better.......I am not willing to believe SA outplayed us here....

Re: Indian camp not happy with umpiring Absolutely right Bheem...imagine such a thing happen to the Aussies....their media would have caused a stir by now...and all we get to read is a passing reference to "some" bad decisions followed by several paras of how well Prince and Pollock batted :wall:

Re: Indian camp not happy with umpiring If you look at the umpiring decisions there would be at least a min of 200 run swing. And that is no exaggaration, at least 200. Also the game pressure if those decisions had been given would have piled on the pressure on SA and they would have folded like they did in 1st game. Pollock, Prince and Boucher all clearly out and others but not given by cheating umpires. Cost us a minimum of 150 runs Dravid not out twice and Sachin not out once, Sree not out. Cost us minimum of 50 runs and that is very consertaive estimate. They also allowed disgraceful verbal antics. We would have won if not for cheating umpires

Re: Indian camp not happy with umpiring video umpiring must be brought in. As much as traditionaly I like umpires etc. We keep getting stiched up. Thus must be brought in as we will suffer these shocking decisions otherwise. Sachin would average well over 60 if it was not for umpires targetting him all the time. The match referre bias will not be stopped in terms of fines etc. But at least we will not suffer shocking decisions. All lbw should be by hawkeye even though it is not 100%.

Re: Indian camp not happy with umpiring Umpiring sucked this test. So did a good number of our players. You will notice that a lot of us gave no flak to Dravid this test. Why? Cause he was short changed by the umps both the innings. Same can't be said of a good number of players in our team who played their part in choking as well.

Re: Indian camp not happy with umpiring They won the game through cheat umpires. We would have won the series in Aus if it was not for umpires. These umpires change the course of matches. We have a whole thread dedicated to slating Sachin when it was the umpire who gave him out when not out. If not given out the whole thing may have been different but we will never know cos the umpires made sure that india would lose right up until the final ball

Re: Indian camp not happy with umpiring Bheemie.........you live in a dream world. If you think that Indian players are the only recipients of poor decisions, then yuh are clueless. BTW, I have seen Sachin palpably caught behind in the Caribbean before he reached 10,......stood his ground and given not out......and go on to register 100. That's the way cricket works, my "fair-minded" friend.
