Also learnt that srk was stopped in a us airport for hours coz nobody gave a **** who he was lol and the president of the same country once said-i am not a fan of sachin nor do i watch cricket but i want to know one thing why the production of our country drops by 5 percent when sachin goes to bat.this sums it very well

U really think If u like a song of a movie u are fan of the actor.I also like few of his movies. But really do not tell me he is a global star.Really its So funny when Media channels ask any actor or actress from overseas if they know about amitabh or Shahrukh and they nod and next question is which film u like and they answer every film with uneasiness and before any more questions change the topic.
Do tell us who you think are global stars from India?

Hell no. He should be lauded for it. And not everyone can make 'noise' like SRK can. Infact there is not a single award show I'd miss if I knew SRK was hosting it. But just because a whole lot of people know who SRK is does not mean they are his fans. That was the point of my previous post.
whatever guys...i'm off to watch another SRK movie...

Then what's the point of bringing it up when the discussion is about the reach and popularity of Shah Rukh Khan and Tendulkar rather than if Shah Rukh Khan is a global star according to you. Just throwing red herrings?
It was to The posters Pointthat shahrukh khan has worldwide following.

SRK being the most religious one out of all 3 Khans gets the maximum support from Middle east and Pakistan. No prize for guessing why.
Why do you say that SRK is the most religious of the 3 Khans? And is being religious something to be shunned?

SRK is way more popular than SRT. At lest in terms of awareness. Brand SRK is definitely more recognized world wide than brand SRT. SRK has a fan following in nations which have few people from the Indian Subcontinent. eg: Russia, Iran, Turkey, Indonesia, Thailand and Bollywood generally is ( or was at least during the time the NAM was relevant) quite well recognized in Eastern Europe. I've heard of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai being translated into Serbo-Croat. Never heard of a person from Belgrade discussing Sachin's 200 vs South Africa. Or was it the West Indies? Apart from the nations of the British common wealth, SRT is hardly recognized anywhere. In fact. cricket as a sport fails to register any kind of curiousity in large swathes of the world- Latin America, most of Africa, Continental Europe and Eastern Asia. In the above mentioned regions, Bollywood, and as an extension, SRK are definitely more popular.

Popularity is a social phenomena that dictates who or what is best liked

You must the times Sachin was featured in Times in the US, when he did advertisement for milk in the middle east. He has a fan following way beyond cricket playing nations.

SRK urinates over SRT even in India. My unscientific poll tells me that SRT's street cred amongst half our population' date=' the ladies, is close to zero. SRK rules in that constituency. It's not even a contest.[/quote'] :hysterical: U know our Sex ratio don't you.

From Russia with Sachin

Russian chess grandmaster Peter Svidler, has used the 'Tendulkar' sobriquet to play online chess on a server popular among 200,000 members including Garry Kasparov. Svidler, "I chose 'Tendulkar' because I meant it as some innocent fun. The intention was to create an illusion, sort of a practical joke on the Western reaction and speculation of people who would assume that somebody who plays chess well and uses an Indian sportsperson's handle must be [Vishwanathan] Anand," Svidler, who is an Andrew Strauss and Sachin Tendulkar fan, told The Sunday Express.

The number would be pretty similar for Shah Rukh Khan as well. But if you are talking about the NRI crowd, don't let the ICF sample fool you. Tendulkar is nowhere in the stakes compared to Shah Rukh Khan as far as the NRI crowd is concerned. Most NRIs I know don't even follow cricket, but are compulsive Bollywood watchers.

Aged ladies are fans of Devanand, Dilip Kumar, Amitabh and Rajesh khanna. Only young women like SRK. Whereas SRT is loved by almost every cricket fan in each age group among males.

SRT in the same period raked in about Rs 60 cr. That tells you who the marketeers think as more popular/convincing. Of course, an actor may always come across as more convincing than a sportsperson, but the gap is still quite substantial.

If NRI's dont watch Cricket then I wonder how the Indian Cricket team manages to attract thousands of spectators in different stadiums around the world viz ... Canada ( Sahara Cup era ), Australia , England , New Zealand and the Uae/Sharjah.

By 'aged' you meant 70+ ? Dude those young girls in 90s during SRK's superhits are today 35+, mother of 2+ child, this age group is majority population of India today. You start watching movies at very young age, same is not true for sports esp. Cricket. IMO SRK is biggest brand in India today, whichever brand he has touched has been a success story in India, whereas Sachin failed to revive FIAT etc. Almost everybody in India knows who SRK is, same is not true for Sachin. In some parts of India esp. Rural India, Cricket has no presence there!

Sachin was very lucky, he got TV viewing audience and format which he is born to play was at it's peak. Kapil dev was/is best Cricketer India ever produced. Too bad only few elite people managed to watch his game live. Kapil Dev is Dharmendra of Cricket, never got credit. Best Indian Cricketer = Kapil Dev Best Test Batsmen = Sunil Gavaskar Best ODI Batsmen = Sachin Tendulkar

IMHO, endorsements anyway fall in territory of movie stars as they involve fair bit of acting. So comparing a sports star with a movie star on basis on endorsements is like giving a headstart of 50m in 100m race. So I don't think if this gap represents anything. This is a bit of misconception that far-off places don't know who Sachin is. I can say atleast from my experience of mainland Europe. (I had not read second paragraph of your post before writing my own)

I have a doubt. Why does SRK behaves like a transgender in few scenes? I mean his dialogues like...."haan haan haan haan haan' date=',,,,heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" Women really like this ****?[/quote'] Why does Tendulkar choke in real life World Cup finals? I mean shots like trying to pull a full length delivery from McGrath or hanging his bat out to dry against Malinga.

yet you seem to be cool with the fact that a movie actor is being pitted against a cricketing heavyweight on a cricket forum! lol
