Day 2 Post Match Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

A mixed day with most of the honours going to South Africa, who took two out of three sessions. India blew away a golden chance to rack up a 500+ score and put enormous pressure on South Africa and secure a drawn series. Tendulkar and Sehwag's dismissals were the two turning points of the day. The ball which got Tendulkar was good but the Tendulkar of old would never have played it off the backfoot and let it misbehave off the pitch. He is still a distance away from his best but is slowly getting back and it might be only a matter of time before these 60s become 100s. Sehwag, well what can one say!! The game was there for the taking. 400/5 and another 10 overs of sensible batting would have sealed the deal. The guy needs to do serious rethinking. Sweeping out of the rough is not a percentage shot specially when there is no attempt to roll the wrists. The tail could not wag because of a good Pollock delivery to Kumble and Zaheer Khan being a bit unlucky that Boucher removed the bails at the very instant his foot was up for a fraction of a second. Kumble was disappointing with the ball and got carried away with the rough. He looks a much better bowler bowling over the wicket to right handers. Zaheer Khan was too short. Munaf looked good towards the end and Sreesanth always looked like taking a wicket. If Kumble and Zaheer Khan pull up their socks in the first session tomorrow and India take 3 wickets before lunch, India are very much in the game. Any lead more than 50 is going to be handy.

Re: Day 2 Post Match Discussion Thread Maaaan.......you can coat it how much you like........the fact of the matter is that it was an extremely poor Day 2 display from India..............AND Sachin is still struggling.....even on an Indian type wicket. Ironically, the slow batting by Sachin & Co may very well save India in the end, depriving the South Africans of the time needed to get a win.

Re: Day 2 Post Match Discussion Thread If India get anything more than a 50 run lead then they should be able to win. In that case they would be leaving SA around 300-350 to win in the last innings if they bat half decently. On the other hand, if South Africa secure any sort of lead the best India can hope for is a draw.

Re: Day 2 Post Match Discussion Thread We lost both sessions after Lunch and after Tea today. We are about 100 runs short on this pitch. We need to get a lead of at least 50 and the key would be to win at least 2 sessions tomorrow. Early breakthrough is the key for tomorrow.

Re: Day 2 Post Match Discussion Thread ohhhhh boy... pollock indicates day 3 is the best day to bat on.. :chin:

"You'd expect that day three is best for batting, and you'd expect the pitch to wear on days four and five. If we can build up a big score tomorrow, we can use the wear and tear on days four and five. It only needs two or three balls to misbehave to get you wickets."
