Chawla to skipper India U19's in NZ

MUMBAI, Jan 3: Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla of Uttar Pradesh would lead a 16-member India under-19 squad to New Zealand and Malaysia later this month. The squad, made up of six batsmen, four medium pacers, two spinners, two all rounders and two wicket keepers, will leave for New Zealand, where they will play three four-day youth Tests and three youth internationals against the hosts, on January 12. The junior national selectors, with Sanjeev Sharma at the helm, also decided that six players would return home from New Zealand and six other replacements would join the rest of the team in Malaysia to play six One-day matches, two each against England, Sri Lanka and the hosts, on the way back. The squad: Piyush Chawla (UP), B Sumanth (Andhra), Tanmay Srivastava (UP), Ravi Teja (Hyderabad), Ajinkya Rahane (Mumbai), Gaurav Chabra, Ishant Sharma (both Delhi), Sumeet Sharma (Punjab), K P Appanna (Karnataka), V Yo Mahesh (TN), Omkar Gurav (wk, Mumbai), Sarabjeet Singh (wk, Punjab), Dhaval Kulkarni (Mumbai), Virat Kohli (Delhi), Abu Nacheem (Assam) and Ravindra Jadeja (Saurashtra). Chawla, Sumanth, Srivastava, Teja, Ishant and Sumeet Sharma, Yo Mahesh, Gurav, Kohli, Nacheem and Jadeja were in the team's touring party to England and Pakistan last year. Sourav Tiwari (Jharkhand), Ishwar Chaudhary (Gujarat), Swapnil Singh (Baroda), Sunny Sohal (Punjab), Anoop Revankar (Mumbai) and Amanpreet Singh (Punjab) will replace six from the New Zealand tour party for the Malaysian leg. ------- Some future stars there.
