Guest dada_rocks
http://cricket.indiatimes.com/articleshow/2387945.cms :hysterical:Yuvraj mayhem, in another world, another time TNN / Pradeep Vijayakar MUMBAI, September 20: Watching the Yuvraj mayhem at Durban from the safety of the sitting room brought memories of a similar mayhem experienced from close — 20 yards! The occasion was a benefit match last year of former India players Karsan Ghavri and Kenia Jayantilal. When skipper Dilip Vengsarkar tossed the ball to this writer there was joy at having to bowl at a current India player. The joy melted in the space of a few minutes as Yuvraj Singh set out to reach for the lights at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana Grounds on Marine Drive. As one tossed one's leggies (alleged?) they were in the soaring mood: first ball over long-off, second ball over long-on, third ball again over long-off, fourth again over long-on as Yuvraj made excellent use of his feet. That was the price one paid for listening to golden words of coaches in the past: ‘When hit, don't ball flat, keep tossing it'. For the fifth ball, one tried to be different: An incutter. Yuvraj saw it all the way and lapped it to fine-leg. Small mercy — a fifth six avoided. Sixth ball, what should one bowl? Fast, bouncer, or just underarm? One tried bowling from a step behind, from 23 yards. Yuvraj hesitated just a bit on seeing the ball coming early but swivelled and tonked it over square-leg and into the adjacent railway tracks. Thirty-four in the over. Small mercy again, it could have been worse: 36, the fate that befell Stuart Broad at Durban on Wednesday. A few months later, yet another chance came to bowl to the Mayhem Man: At the Mumbai Cricket Association's BKC ground where Yuvraj was on rehab. The Indian vice-captain was testing his injured leg and batting for the first time since his twisted ankle at Chandigarh in the ODI series against Australia. He didn't mess around. Just concentrated on getting his front foot fully stretched to reach the ball. His fluency against spin could be better. While he resisted hitting the lollies into the MMRDA grounds, Yuvraj couldn't resist asking quietly: "Aap ko lamba maraa thaa, yaad hain na." Yes janaab, yaad hai, one said, unable to add under one's breath, 'Try doing it elsewhere or on the big canvas'. Because one had seen it all. A Yuvraj mayhem in a the All-India U-16 final in Mumbai when he played for North against East. Watched by Raj Singh Dungarpur and the late Polly Umrigar, Yuvraj hit from the middle of the Elf ground at the Oval maidan over the sightscreen and the palm tree beyond it into the divider of the road, easily a distance of 120 yards. This prompted Dungarpur to remark to Umrigar, who was the chief guest: "You were called palm tree hitter in West Indies, this lad is hitting over the palm tree!" Then, on TV, his carnage against McGrath & Co in the ICC trophy in Nairobi 2000. It felt good to be in august company — of the mayhem bakras. Link to comment
